In the lab, the air smelled faintly of warm circuits as the steady hum of machines filling the background. Adam, Bree, and Chase stood in a loose line while thin metal collars—each fitted with tiny electro-sensors—rested against their necks, testing their reflex skills. The wires trailed back to a console where Donald adjusted a set of glowing controls, his glasses catching the light from the monitors. "Okay, now we'll check your bionic reflexes. First the left arm." Instantly, Chase's arm jerked forward, thumping Adam squarely in the face. At the same time, Adam's arm snapped out toward Bree, giving her a smack before any of them could react. Chase laughed, clearly enjoying the rare sight of his brother in pain. With Adam stuck in the middle, he eagerly anticipated the double hit that was about to come.

"Okay, now the right arm." This time Bree's arm shot out, bumping Adam. Adam's arm followed immediately, swinging the other direction and hitting Chase. Adam staggered slightly between them, rubbing his arms with an exaggerated groan. "Ohhh! Oh, I hate this game!" the older brother complained, dragging the words out dramatically.

Donald finally glanced up from the console, considering him for a moment. "Okay, Adam, you can sit this one out. I'll just do Bree and Chase." When pressing the next button, he made both siblings' arms hit Adam, causing us to chuckle.

"Come on, Big D, it's summer vacation! Let's hit the beach. Slap on some shorts and show everyone your pasty little walking sticks!" Leo called out. "Ew." I cringed instantly. "Don't put that image in my head."

"Not now, Leo. We're doing some routine bionic chip maintenance." he replied and glanced over at the others. "Besides, this is fun, right, guys?" Tasha stepped up behind Donald just then, carefully balancing a tray of cups with a water jug in her other hand.

"Good times." Adam said flatly, sitting on the console.

"A blast." the younger brother added with zero enthusiasm.

"Okay, are we done here?" Bree groaned. "I wanna go be normal for a while!" Before anyone could stop her, she yanked the collar off her neck and tossed it toward the machine, making the device hit the console and spark violently. Tasha gasped as the tray slipped from her hands. Cups clattered across the floor and water splashed everywhere.

She stared at the mess in disbelief. "Can't we go just five minutes without something sparking, exploding, or oozing around here?" she complained. "Ever since summer vacation started, it's been like one long science experiment." Donald immediately walked over and gently grabbed her shoulders, rubbing them.

"I'm sorry, honey. I... you know..." He hesitated, then nodded to himself. "Maybe... maybe Leo's right. Maybe we need to take a break and go to the beach."

"Ohh!"

"Yeah!" Adam, Bree and I instantly cheered, sharing high-fives as Tasha's shoulders relaxed, a relieving smile spread across her face. "We'll take a whole weekend." Donald continued. "As a normal family, you know? No gadgets, no phones. We'll do it totally tech-free."
