I paced along the edge of the office building, trying to concentrate on the lines I'd be delivering tonight in the school play. In case it wasn't obvious—I was nervous. That's part of the reason I came early and skipped hanging out with Adam and Leo in the lab. For the record, yes, I'm fully aware of Leo's mysterious orbs.

Just as I was mentally rehearsing, Scott strolled in, grinning. "Well, if it isn't my employee of the week—and my weak employee." he quipped, spotting Chase and Bree behind the counter.

"Good one, Scott." Chase replied dryly. "It's funny because she's bad at her job. Ha!" She rolled her eyes at them, crossing her arms. "Yeah, well, I mean, I'd be better at it but I have things that get in the way like friends and a life." she shot back, just as Scott whistled to grab everyone's attention. He strutted over to the screen, announcing Tech-Town's latest contest.

"Listen up, guys. It's time for Tech Town's annual design-your-own-app contest!" That snapped me out of my anxious haze as he gestured to the screen with that same title, the other employers huddled together. "Ohh! Does the fun ever end around here?" Bree muttered with a sardonic smile, rolling her eyes, making our way closer to the screen title. "Yeah, usually when you show up." Scott fired back, unleashing his signature obnoxious laugh. Chase tried to mimic it, which made me grimace. "Don't do my laugh." Scott warned, thankfully cutting Chase off before it got worse.

"All entrants have 24 hours to upload their app to our website. Whoever has the most downloads by Friday wins a $500 gift card." With dramatic flair, he lifted his leg and pulled the card from his brightly colored sock.

"And please apply yourselves this year." Scott declared, puffing out his chest. "I'm so sick winning." He strutted off, putting the card in his shirt pocket. I rolled my eyes so hard I practically saw my own brain. "Don't you worry, Scott." Chase called after him, raising his voice with theatrical flair, with us following behind. "I'm definitely going to app-ly myself!"

"Uh, no more tech puns. A lady complained to corporate." Scott paused mid-strut, warning him. "That was me." I chimed in, laughing under my breath. Bree snorted beside me, amused, whereas Chase shot me a strange look, while Scott paid us no mind, absorbed in thinking over Chase's idea of applying. "Chase, no offense, but you're clearly out of your league. You're never gonna outshine the master." Scott said, his tone smug and dismissive,

"The master?" Chase echoed with a dry laugh, cocking an eyebrow. "You clearly have no idea who you're dealing with."

"Oh no! Two big egocentric idiots. What do we do, back away or run away? I'm all in for both." I muttered to Bree, keeping my eyes glued to the unfolding showdown. Bree smirked but stayed silent, just as Scott looked at him in betrayal. "Ah, how could you turn on me like this? I was your idol."

"Yeah?" Chase said, surprise flickering in his voice. "Well, now you're my competition." he added, squaring his stance, hands on his hips and lifting his chin defiantly. Scott narrowed his eyes and mirrored the pose. "Sounds like you're challenging me."
