I paced around my work building as I tried to focus on my lines I was gonna say this evening at the school play. If you haven't noticed I am nervous. That was one of the reasons I arrived at work early and did not hang out with Adam and Leo in the lab, although I do know about Leo's orbs.
"Well, if it isn't my employee of the week and my weak employee." Scott laughed as he walked in and saw Chase and Bree behind the counter. "Good one, Scott. It's funny because she's bad at her job. Ha!" "Yeah, well, I mean, I'd be better at it but I have things that get in the way like friends and a life." She mocked him just as Scott whistled to get everyone's attention and moved closer to the sign that displayed the contest Tech-Town was having. "Listen up, guys. It's time for Tech Town's annual design-your-own-app contest!" Now that snapped me out of my nervous state. "Does the fun ever end around here?" Bree smiled, sardonically. "Yeah, usually when you show up." Scott let out his usual obnoxious laugh and Chase tried to copy it as I cringed. "Don't do my laugh." Luckily, he stopped and he continued with his explanation. "All entrants have 24 hours to upload their app to our website. Whoever has the most downloads by Friday wins a $500 gift card." He lifted his leg and took out the gift card out of his coloured socks. "And apply yourselves this year, I am so sick of winning." I rolled my eyes as he smirked to himself, walking away. "Don't you worry, Scott. I'm definitely going to app-ply myself!"
"Uh, no more tech puns. A lady complained to corporate." "That was me." I chuckled, along with Bree but both ignored me and turned their attention to each other. " Chase, no offense, but you're clearly out of your league. You're never gonna outshine the master."
"The master?" Chase snickered. "You clearly have no idea who you're dealing with.""Oh no! Two big egocentric idiots. What do we do, back away or run away? I'm all in for both." I whispered to Bree as I never took my eyes of off both men. "Ah, how could you turn on me like this? I was your idol." "Yeah. Well, now you're my competition." " Sounds like you're challenging me." They got up into each other's faces, trying to be intimidating. "And no one challenges me. Except my mom. She's my ride."
...I decided to take a day off because its just gonna be one of a hectic day at work if I go and I'm too busy worrying about my lines for the play. So I am at home, listening to Adam practicing his one liner to Tasha and I. He's even more stressed than I am when I have not one but two lines to say. He lightly stomped his feet to 'practice his walk' as he put it and clicked his tongue. "Ma'am, you're standing in it." he said his line in a country accent but then he shook his head, like he wasn't satisfied. "No, wait. You're standing in it. You're standing in it!" Tasha and him shared a knowing smile and he grinned. "What do you think? Did you feel like you were standing in it?"
"All 76 times." I answered and got elbowed by Tasha and stood up. "Honey, you're gonna be fine. It's just one line." Adam gasped like he was offended of what she said. "The most important one line of the whole play. Without me, she never finds Mission Creek. It's the entire emotional thrust of the second act, Tasha."
"Uh, or-" I stood up and glared at my brother. "-she could ask Miss Bailey." I shrugged as he rolled his eyes just as Donald walked in and went to talk to Tasha so I stood by Adam, practicing my lines silently in my head. "Okay, guys, prepared to be wowed!" Chase made himself known with a smile on his face. "My new app: Dirt Alert!" He took out his phone from his pocket. "It tells you the precise type of rock or soil that's beneath you and how long it's been there. You want to try?"
"Oh, I can't. I got to go pretend to care about his play." "Oh, uh, dinner needs to be made." They said, overlapping each other and as Tasha went into the kitchen and Chase left us. "Would you help me practice my line?" Adam asked Donald. "And miss the thrill of seeing it live?" He grinned sarcastically and patted his shoulder. "Not a chance!" As he went to open the door, Adam ignored what he said and went to follow him whilst saying the same line over and over. "Ma'am, you're standing in it. Ma'am...the door was standing in it."
"Man, he's annoying." I chuckled when the door closed. "Hey, Chase?"
...
If II was nervous before now I am terrified. Its not that I suffer from stage fright but I just want to make a good first impression so I can get to be on more plays. "My goodness, this harrowing journey has cost us dearly, but we have to keep searching. We shall dump our dead relatives at the next trading post." Janelle said as me and other actors made our way on stage. "Go smallpox! C'mon people, you gotta get your hips into it." Leo abruptly said, as he stood swinging his arms. Janelle glared at him as Tasha grabbed him by the hips, making him sit back down. I cleared my throat ready to deliver my line. "Maybe we can yell for somebody to help us." I took my opportunity to improvise so I pretended to look around. "Help, help!" Apparently improvising was not allowed as Janelle covered my mouth and gave me a look. Adam walked up on stage riding a stick with a horse head on it and pretended to slow it down. "Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!"
"Excuse me, good sir, I'm on a mission to find a creek. Pray tell, have you seen one?" Just as she said her line, Adam went to say his but froze, mouth agape. "Line!" I saw Tasha lean forward and whisper Adam's line since she heard it a bunch of times. He better not screw up because after his line mine comes next. "Ma'am, you're standing in it!"
"Quiet, Tasha, I'm trying to do a play."
...
"Let us stop here for tonight and set up camp." I was so mad at her because she skipped my line I was working hard for 'because the show must go on' but I tried to stay calm so I don't glitch. My head turned to the gym doors as I heard Leo screaming and plummet onto the floor and saw the two orbs behind him. This is what happens when he messes with stuff he should not mess with.
"Oh, no. Oh, the flying balls of doom!" Trent yelled, fearfully. "No!" Trent yelled as they went into attack mode and made his way over the audience as people were getting away. "Out of my way! You're all losers! Oh, save me! Take that! Yeah!" He threw down a fake flower pot to try and trick the orb and it worked for a few seconds as they lasered the object until they went right back to lasering Trent. "Whoa! My shoes, these are my good shoes! Leave me alone!" The orb then lasered the props as he tried to hid behind them. "Aaaaah! Oh! Okay. Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Save me! Save me! Save me! Oh, no! Whoa! Whoa!"
To make matters worse he got up on stage knocking everything over as the cast were taking cover, Adam seemed to not know what's going on trapped into the acting world to try and remember his line while I was starting to get very mad that the whole play was ruined and did not get to say my lines. . "Dooley! Make it stop!" He yelled as the attack orb made its way in front of him. He ducked but the blue curtain fell on him so he tried to use that as cover. Leo got on stage to try and get Adam to help. "Adam, help!" "No, you help. Go ask someone what my line is."
"Leo, do something!" Tasha said to her son, hiding behind a chair. "Working on it, Mom." I started to feel more angry the more the room felt hectic and chaotic and I felt my hands burn.
I saw Leo jump on the orb and went flying with it. "Excuse me. Pardon me. Sorry. Get out the way." The orb stopped for a few and stood in front of Janelle. "You are ruining my play!"
"I am flying around on a metal ball. Can we please not turn on each other right now?" His eyes widened in realization. "That's it. I can make them turn on each other!" Leo hoisted his body to adjust the orb to face the other one and fired at the same time, destroying each other in the process and Leo fall to the ground just in time. "What'd we miss?" I saw Donald, Chase and Bree enter the room as the burn in my hands felt like I could explode any moment until Adam finally delivered his line.
"Oh! Ma'am, you're standing in it." "Oh, ain't that a coinky dink we were standing in it the whole time." The people that were left in this room applauded as Janelle looked fed up that we said our lines so late.
