At school, Chase and Adam had somehow ended up turning a perfectly normal break period into an arm-wrestling challenge, with the entire group gathering around like it was some kind of official sporting event. Chase stood with his arm on the bench, cracking his knuckles and insisting—way too confidently—that he was absolutely going to win. Adam, meanwhile, looked completely unconcerned, like he had already mentally accepted victory and was just waiting for the rest of us to catch up. Bree, Leo, and I stood off to the side, all of us watching with varying levels of doubt. Leo was the first to speak up, leaning forward with his usual dramatic flair.

"Chase, there's no way you can beat Adam arm-wrestling." he said seriously. "It'd be like a chicken wrestling an alligator. All we hear is a cock-a-doodle crunch." Adam and Bree both laughed, and I couldn't help it either. Leo wasn't exactly wrong. Adam flexed his arm with exaggerated confidence, kissing his bicep dramatically. "He's right, bro." he said. "Your spaghetti arms are no match for these meatballs." He kept kissing his muscles one by one like he was introducing them on stage, even stepping forward with a mock heroic pose. Chase rolled his eyes hard. "Hey... when you're done kissing your girlfriends, let's do this." That made me laugh, and even Bree cracked a smile as they both climbed onto the bench and got into position. Bree stepped back slightly, glancing at us like she was expecting collateral damage.

"Better back up, guys." she warned. "We're in the splatter zone." Chase shot her a look but didn't back down, keeping his arm firmly planted. Leo stepped forward like a referee, clapping his hands once to get attention. "Okay, I want a clean match." he announced. "No whining, screaming, crying, or tap-outs. I'm looking at you, Chase. Three... two... one... go!" Chase suddenly licked his hand before slamming it down with surprising speed, pinning Adam's arm instantly. Adam jerked back in pure disgust, recoiling like he had just lost a battle with reality itself. "Ugh! Hey! No fair! He licked his hand!" Adam shouted, wiping his palm aggressively on Bree's shirt.

"Ew!" Bree yelled, immediately stepping away and shoving him off her. I just stared at them for a second. "I gotta say... did not expect that." Chase laughed, completely satisfied with himself. "Exactly. Clever beats strong any day."

I hesitated, then lifted Chase's hand dramatically. "Chase wins." "...Wait." I added slowly. "Which hand did you lick?" "That one." Chase said, pointing casually at the one I held high. I immediately dropped his hand like it was radioactive and switched sides, grabbing the other one instead. "Chase wins." I repeated quickly.

That's when Marcus walked up. "Hey guys, how's it going?" he said casually, smiling as he approached. Then he looked at me and kissed my cheek. I stiffened slightly, smiling back automatically, but before I could say anything, Leo stepped in front of me like a protective barrier.

"Ooh." Leo muttered, rolling his eyes. "Bundle up, everyone. It just got partly creepy with a hundred percent chance of annoying." Adam raised an eyebrow. "Oof. Am I gonna need my umbrella for that?" Marcus blinked, clearly confused, but kept going anyway. "So... you guys wanna hang out at my house after school? We just got a sick new flat screen." Leo immediately leaned forward. "Is it as sick as you make me? Because that'd be pretty sick."
