If you play with fire.. you get burned

Chapter 61

As Robert and Andy were walking downstairs to go get dinner, Andy suddenly got stuck on the stairs because her waters had just broken.

Andy: "No, no, they can't be born now, it's still early"

Robert: "They don't think so" he replied as he helped Andy down the last few steps of the stairs.

Andy: "It hurts a lot" she said and then screamed in pain.

Robert: "I know, but now I'll take you straight to the hospital. I have to go get the bags you packed and then let's go. You sit here" he said helping her into the chair.

Robert very quickly went to get the bags that Andy had been packing for the past few weeks with all the things for the hospital, then put the bags in the car and then went back to his wife. Robert then helped Andy into the car and they headed to the hospital. On the way to the hospital, Andy was screaming because she was in a lot of pain and Robert was trying to reassure her that they would be at the hospital in a few minutes. Once we arrived in front of the hospital, Robert called for help and a nurse came out with a wheelchair in order to carry Andy in it. As they carried Andy into one of the rooms, she was called Jo who came to them within minutes.

Jo: "How are you feeling?" she asked as she packed some things to check on Andy and the twins.

Andy: "It hurts a lot" she said squeezing Robert's hand tightly.

Jo: "I know, but think that soon you will be able to hold your children in your arms"

Andy: "Yes, but it still hurts"

Jo: "I'll check you now, ok?" Andy nodded.

Jo started checking on Andy and obviously she was still early before the twins were born and Andy still needed to have some patience.

Jo: "The twins are placed in the right position, but you are not yet dilated and you will have to wait a little longer"

Andy: "How long do I have to wait?"

Jo: "This is impossible to know, it could take a few minutes or a few hours"

Andy: "Hours?" Jo nodded. "I hope it won't take long" Jo gave a tiny laugh.

Jo: "Stay here in bed for now, I'll come back to check on you in a bit" Andy nodded and then Jo left Andy's room.

Robert: "Do you need anything?"

Andy: "Yes, let these two kids get out as fast as possible"

Robert: "You have to be patient, but don't worry, I'll always be here beside you" Andy nodded.

Andy: "Does anything to take my mind off the pain"

Robert didn't know what to do at first, but then he started telling his wife how he pictured his kids, Andy did the same and that helped her a bit. But Andy continued to feel a lot of pain and the contractions were getting closer and closer. After an hour Jo had come back to check on Andy, but she was still not fully dilated, but according to her Jo was close. Jo and some nurses meanwhile got everything ready so that as soon as Andy was fully dilated, everything was ready for the birth of the babies. After Jo checked on Andy again, she told her it was time for the babies to be delivered.

Jo: "Next contraction, push as hard as you can, ok?" Andy nodded and shook Robert's hand very tightly.

As soon as Andy had a contraction, she started pushing as hard as she could and continued to do so through the next contractions. Andy was feeling quite tired and the first baby hadn't come out yet. After a final push, the first baby was born and the baby was immediately heard crying in the room. Robert cut the umbilical cord and then a nurse handed the baby to Andy who was crying.
