If you play with fire.. you get burned

Chapter 10

As soon as they arrived in front of the conference room, they waited their turn to get the folder with the materials for the day and while they were waiting, Robert heard someone calling him. When Robert turned around he immediately recognized the woman who was calling him.

Robert: "Oh my god, I can't believe it, it's you" he said hugging the woman as Andy watched the scene and was jealous.

Claire: "We haven't seen each other for a long time"

Robert: "It's been a few years, but it's nice to see you again"

Claire: "It's nice for me too" she replied smiling sweetly at Robert as she put her hand on his arm.

Andy seeing them together she felt jealous and she approached Robert.

Andy: "And who would you be?" she said taking Claire's hand off Robert's arm.

Claire: "I'm Claire, Robert's ex-girlfriend and she who knows.. since he's here now.." she replied looking at Robert. "Who are you?"

Andy: "I'm Andrea. Andrea Herrera-Sullivan, she is his wife" she replied taking Robert's hand.

Claire: "Oh. Are you really married?" Robert nodded as he smiled. "You have really changed"

Robert: "Yes, I'm no longer as I once was"

Andy: "Honey.. we have to go" she said ignoring Claire and Robert nodded.

Claire: "We will meet again during the day" she said while still smiling sweetly at Robert.

Andy and Robert moved away from Claire, took the material they would need for the whole day and went to sit in their seats. Since Andy and Robert were the only married firefighters couple working together, they had front row seats and some spaces were set aside during the day for others present to ask them questions. Both were a bit nervous because theirs wasn't a real marriage and they would have had to pretend even more than usual. Very often Claire kept looking at Robert and when Andy noticed it and started getting even more clingy with Robert.

Robert: "Are you jealous, kitty?"

Andy: "Me? Of course not"

Robert: "You're acting like you're jealous" she replied giving her a quick kiss.

Andy: "I'm pretending just like you did when Ryan came to the station the first few times. I have the right to be a jealous wife"

Robert: "Ohh, I noticed, Andrea Herrera-Sullivan"

Andy: "If we are married in theory I also have your last name, is it a problem for you?"

Robert: "No, that's fine. It's a lot of fun to see you jealous" he replied, hugging her. "For tonight they organized a dinner and we are invited too"

Andy: "I just hope it's not one of those boring dinners. Already now it's pretty boring.. but do you really have so much trouble having a family? It doesn't seem difficult to me. My parents had succeeded, I really don't understand what the problem is"

Robert: "Rules are the problem. We are continuing to pretend only because we both want to stay at 19. The regulation allows relationships only to firefighters of the same rank or to people who get married"

Andy: "And it's wrong"

Robert: "I agree with you. Soon it's our first shift where we have to answer a few questions, are you ready?"

Andy: "Yes, it could be the only fun time of the day"

Robert: "I also remember another fun and pleasant moment.. this morning.. the two of us.. the shower.." he said whispering in Andy's ear and she smiled.
