ken doesn't care if people die, and i don't think i realized it until right now. he looks so bored right now it makes me want to murder him. luke is right, he's giving up on everything he learned last year. we worked ceaselessly to learn and pursue what was killing him, what killed his family, and he'd rather believe the lie than the truth. it's astonishing. why would he give up on that? what happened that he'd give up on pursuing justice and the truth? my fists clench subconsciously. what exactly is his problem? why does he feel so cold now? so distant?
"so what do you want me to say?" ken smiles, it would be charming if it didn't look so sickeningly sweet. his eyes drip with mischief. "dead people are dead people, all we have to do is follow orders," luke and kally look very uncomfortable, but luke is the only one that says something. what has gotten into him today?
"because they didn't want to die, including your mother, and i mean what about your father?" luke states.
ken stops.
"what do you mean father? that freak left me to die as a baby," and ken spits on the ground. i'm not the only one taken aback by what he says.
"why did you need me here again?" ken asks.
we all look at him hard. i'm not sure what i was expecting, but not this. he doesn't care about his dad because of what happened. is his bitterness about what happened to his family keeping him from helping others? is that what this is about?"
"i'll wait for one more minute and then i'm leaving," ken snarls.
"what's keeping you?" katie asks and there's something there too. she doesn't want him here. why?
"we need you here because your dad built maps and we need them to figure out what exactly is happening here," kally interjects. her voice is colder than usual towards ken but i've been watching her between words. she won't let him out of her sight.
"i'll give them to luke, now are we done?" ken keeps going.
"yeah, get lost," katie spits at him.
a shadow of pain crosses ken's face as he tosses his hover board to the ground and soars away.
"what's going on with you two?" i ask with a wicked grin.
"we're talking about a murderer running wild throughout alasia and you want to know about my relationship status?" i've never seen katie like this before. she's worried, but what is she worried about?
