the only thing i need now is katie's electricity. i sneak in among the shift making their way to the other base. if i can talk to her im sure she'll be on board. from the notes i've taken this seems like the wisest option. she knows he's my friend. she would do it. i just have to get to her. my throat is bone dry as i sort through weapons at base. i find a flame gun that makes me think of kally so i grab it. i attack it to my suit and grab a forcefield maker as well to clip on my belt. if worst comes to worst i'll shield whatever is coming at me. i take one more gulp of air before hopping onto my hover board and making my way towards the opposite base.
the route i take is longer than ones i could have but it's safer. always safer. the trees still look ominous along with the animals milling around in its depths. it's day light. i know katie has to be alive if tigris is over here.
i don't know what i was expecting, but it was not this. an eerie pressing silence screams at my ears. what happened here? there is black sand and blood everywhere. what happened?
i race towards the doors and hear the sound of movement inside. i slide behind one of the doors to watch ken and katie exit the building together with a number of unrecognizable faces.
"luke," katie sees me before anyone else. i raise my forcefield. that was almost instantaneous. her eyes look at me with an intense curiosity.
"come back in the base with me, i need to speak with you and ken alone, now, the rest of you make sure there are no more of them and if there are, kill them," and then she reaches her hand through the forcefield to wrap her hand around my elbow. i didn't even know that was possible.
"so luke," she says as soon as we are behind closed doors. "what can i do you for?" and i reach out my arm and show them the cold stone in my hand.
"i need you to hold this, it will act as medicine to ken, physically i don't think that there is a way to make the effects eternal but i need to try my best. you both deserve independence," i let the words tumble from my lips.
