kassie has the last ingredient ready for me when i get back to the dorms at school and within the next few days i have perfected it. i decide it's time to call ken on medical terms and talk to katie about the final most important part. i gulp as i dial his ID number into the watch. it brings up a call to him. he picks up within two rings.
"what's wrong? i saw the medical alert on the phone call?" ken begins.
"are you with katie?" i ask, feeling true elation about my most recent discovery.
"yeah, why?" he sounds excited now.
"if katie can lend me some of her power i think i finally have the forever solution, but in order to test it out i need to have a sample of your power's make up. i would like to meet during level five at the dividing line between base territories," i heave the words out of my chest as if they were pressing against my lungs to be let out.
"sure," katie is the one who responds. "what time is best for you?" she continues.
"i'll send a text at the right time," i decide with a shrug. "we never know what could happen."
they agree and shortly have to hang up the phone. a wave of relief washes over me. if i could give ken independence and myself a way through the ranks, it will be exactly what i need.
i smile as i make my way back to my room.
i suddenly hear footsteps pattering behind me until they land just before me.
"will you come be with us," it's kally talking to me. she loops an arm around my elbow just like she did to ken and then all of a sudden she's leading me away. in fact, if i i'm not mistaken, she's giving me a look similar to the one she used to give him too. of course kally isn't looking at me exactly that way, she's older and more knowing now, and something else new but i can't pin my finger on exactly what.
she takes me down the hall to the room with kassie and terrence. we sit on the ground in a small huddle.
"we need more members, whatever it takes. we need to take down tigris," kassie begins the meeting urgently. we all watch her as she pleads with us to make a larger impact than we planned.
