it's level five and katie and i walk together to the base. this time it's a sky scraper. she immediately wants me to get the cameras working and then figure out the password. i smile but every time i leave her i get a bad feeling in my stomach.
i run towards the first floor because she is my boss and i trust her judgement, but i can't deny she always goes in alone and always without enough back up. it's terrifying. the stronger she gets the worse this feeling grows. there are those who want her dead, who want to torture her, and who want her out of this dimension. most of the citizens of alasia feel that way. it's only a matter of time until she can't take it on her own anymore. i just hope she lets me be by her side when it happens. i have my freeze ray for a reason.
finally i make it inside the walls and start plugging in the cameras. as i move up the floors comrade joins me. i'm grateful for him too because he makes the work go twice as fast. each level of this building has a maze of rooms. it's nothing like we've dealt with before. this is a completely different beast.
before this level we were informed that creatures tend to live inside the bases moving forward. most of them are opportunistic and nomadic. different variation from the other creatures you might have faced in the past. they should not be underestimated.
i've heard of the nomadic creatures. i've even seen some of their homes in odd spots when viewed from the rainbow shuttle. i've always wondered what their deal was. i guess now we'll be able to find out. depends on how it all pans out i guess.
i sigh and move through the floors more carefully than usual. already i've been attacked by a few creatures hiding out in the walls of the building. it's harder to see them and fight them in the small space. not to mention repair the cameras when under attack. comrade and i have a system by the upper floors though. i duck and ice the floor, he shoots the oncoming traffic. it works okay. it's only a pain knowing where to put the bodies. so far i haven't seen much of a difference between these creatures and the others but i know they exist. the only distinguishable facet i've noticed is a paint splotch of red drawn across their forehead in a straight line.
