"during this level i am receiving the healing tonic from the target. after that point she is no longer of use to my recovery," i note this to veronica who stands in the darkness. she nods.
"i have forged an alliance with the creatures and they have agreed to help me defeat the other team," kassie adds importantly. this is met with long wide eyed stares.
"and i am handling the troops," kally interjects. these words seem to satisfy veronica and the meeting ends shortly afterward. now i make my way to luke, bringing him back to the other base under the condition that i have a medical condition. he's more than happy to finally spend time with me. and i find myself thinking the feeling is mutual.
finally, after a long journey up the elevator we make it to the room where katie is. she smiles and gives luke a hug which strikes me as odd. she surely doesn't trust me that much. and then without any more ceremony she lays out her hand.
"alright, do whatever you need to," and so in a somewhat odd fashion luke takes hold of her hand with his own and in the other he places the stone. i watch in amazement as he begins to glow electric blue. his hair begins to lift with static electricity before with a great snap, the rock smashes into two.
luke hands one piece to me and the other to her, and then places his hand around both of ours. i feel this strange sensation rising from my abdomen. what is he doing? i look down.
the once white rock is now tinged electric blue. and then all at once he lets go.
"it's done, now neither of you lose that and other than that you'll be fine, now can you take me back i have something else i have to do," luke sounds business like as he packs up his case. i watch him meticulously order his instruments, cleaning some off with a snow white cloth from a specific spot in his bag. i shake my head. some habits never change.
"thanks for taking care of my team mate," and katie gives luke another hug. i clench my fists. why does she care? and then that conversation she had with amy rattles inside my head. she does care. she, genuinely cares about me making it out alive. me succeeding. and me being me. and it burns like fire.
