We win level five. this means that out of the thirteen levels jaden has 3 wins and army has two wins. my legs are full of lead as i march onto the rainbow shuttle. my eyes flit towards the innumerable windows that entrap the expanse that stretches out endlessly. my eyes are fixed upwards. straight into the sky. others sit down next to me. i don't say anything. i close my eyes instead and as i do another sits down.
he smells like axel greese and woodlands and he pulls my head down onto his shoulder. my eyes flit open and gaze openly into him. his floppy blonde hair a mess around him. his golden lashes framing the windows to his soul.
he gives a charming smile and his dimples punctuate his cheeks.
"come on, you always do this for me," and then he lays his head on top of mine.
"don't worry, i'll let everyone else know you're sleeping," i feel his body shift and then a huge jacket flops over me. i'm immersed in his evergreen smell as he positions the hood over my head. i smile in the darkness as his arms wraps around me protectively.
i don't remember much after that until we make it to the arena.
the arena is crawling in guests and professors. it seeps with antsy students anxiously finding their seat. i wait as each name is called. as stats are read and memorable events are commented on. it slides by like a bad dream. each student presented with their abilities or lack there of. and then my name is called.
i march to the front and stand with my arms crossed. a hush falls over the room and my stats are read out. my memorable moments are displayed for everyone to see. i'm a mannequin at the scrutiny of the mall shoppers.
"she's a monster," the whispers start.
"no one can be that strong," another one.
"she's a freak, who knew what was hiding inside,"
"fight her? like anyone could," chortles and spit are thrown at me, but surprisingly a lot of army university doesn't join in. if anything they sit silently and watch with wrapped attention. my eyes flit from the mad crowd to this calm counter part. at the end, above all of the ruckus someone stands up and claps. and then another. and then another.
it's army, and specially Ima who is cheering me on.
"you go boss!" she screams. i blink. what?
all of this time. they hated me. why do they care now?
