Mama's sass

Bucky maintained his promise, and went to get you a change of clothes as soon as Doctor Cho was done. You used the lab shower to quickly wash off the black ash from your body and you came back out twenty minutes later in a pair of black jeans, one of your pink t-shirts, and Bucky's black hoodie. The vet had arrived and already been working on Jasper. They had their kit with them, but were also using some of the materials and tools the lab had to offer.
"Hi" you waved as you came into the room.
"Hello" he seemed a little stern. He was tall, with long black hair tied back in a bun and a pair of glasses perched on his nose. "You shouldn't be in here" he seemed to be dismissing you.
"Oh boy," Doctor Cho said under her breath.
"Jasper, is he hurting you?" you ignored him.
"No, he's been gentle" Jasper looked over at you. You hummed and came closer.
"Miss, you can't be this close to a wild animal" the vet sassed you.
"We haven't met. I'm Y/N Barnes, and that is my companion. I'm also known as Firewolf. His name is Jasper, and he's not wild anything" you came over and kissed Jasper on his muzzle and he licked your face.
"Bucky went with Steve and your uncle Brad back to the cabin" Doctor Cho advised you. The vet sputtered and you looked around the room.
"Where's Snow and Brutus?" you asked.
"He kicked them out," Doctor Cho advised you.
"Excuse me?" you asked and glared at the vet.
"My name is Doctor Grant, and I need space to work with my patient" he tried to shoo you away.
"Well, Doctor Grant, if you hurt my puppy there will be no place safe in all the nine realms from me," you warned him and you walked out with Doctor Cho promising you keep him safe as you left. You were immediately met with Snow, Blue, Brutus and the rest of the Shadow wolf pack waiting, and you got down on the floor, only to have Snow climb on your lap before Blue could.
"He kicked us out," she pouted.
"He kicked me out too" you kissed her on top of her head. "Is anyone else hurt?" you asked, looking at the shadow wolves and Brutus directly.
"Just a few scrapes and bruises" Brutus answered for his pack.
"Let me see" you reached out a hand and saw a few claw marks on both Brutus and one other wolf.
"Come on" you stood up again after giving Snow a reassuring kiss on top of her head again. "And what's your name?" you asked the wolf.
"Sidney, I'm his beta" a deep voice answered you.
"Well, today you need to behave yourself and don't bite even if it hurts, okay?" you asked them.
"You have our word, Luna," Brutus agreed.
"Come on" you opened the lab door, and you could tell that the rest of the pack, Snow, and Blue were itching to go inside the door as Brutus and Sidney followed you.
"I thought I made myself clear" Doctor Grant looked up, a little exasperated.
"I brought you more patients. Doctor Cho, where do you want them?" you asked.
"Over here" she started to put paper down on two beds. Brutus seemed to understand the mission and jumped up on one, while Sidney seemed more hesitant.
"It's okay, big guy. He's just going to make sure you don't get an infection" you promised Sidney. Sidney seemed to understand and he jumped up on the bed, laying so he was ready to leap off at a moment's notice.
"Here, we need their names" Doctor Cho handed you two clipboards with a sharpie and you quickly wrote down their names and put it on their respective beds.
"Is this going to be our full time vet?" you asked her.
"Yes," she nodded.
"Doctor Grant? They are bleeding, they may need stitches. They also need to be cleaned up" you said in a no nonsense tone before walking out again. You heard him grunt that he heard you and you rolled your eyes. You picked up Blue and sat down on the floor outside the door again. Snow quickly found her way to your lap again and you cuddled them both.
"Will the Alpha be okay?" one of the wolves asked you.
"Of course" you gave a smile. "Jasper is in there, and will let me know if something is off. So is Doctor Cho" you promised them.

An hour later Bucky came walking in carrying two of the pups, while Uncle Brad had the other two. Melody and Cloud were at their feet, watching carefully and waiting with visible anxiety for their pups back. Cloud saw you on the floor and seemed conflicted. You had just been talking to Jasper through your mind most of the last hour, who was keeping you apprised. He had a cast on, and both Brutus and Sidney were looked after shortly after him. They had barely made a peep. Bucky grimaced seeing you sitting on the floor, but headed towards the living room regardless. He knew he had to get the pups down with their mother and father again.
"Go" you whispered to Cloud who quickly left. You knew he had wanted to say something, but his children were his priority. You could already hear Billy telling the pups to mind themselves and to stay away from the babies.
The door behind you finally opened and Doctor Grant was there drying his hands off. He seemed surprised at the small crowd that was waiting to get in.
"Any more patients?" he asked you.
"Just bruises" you spoke for the rest of the pack.
"The wolves did very well. I had to do some stitches on Brutus, so he will need to stay in clean areas for a week or two. The same with Sidney. Jasper has a cast and stitches. I reset his front left leg. It's dried by now so he can come out. I'll be back to check on him in a few weeks when I get my office, and we should be able to take the cast off in a month or so" he advised.
"Thank you" you set Blue to the side who whined a bit. Snow ran in past the doctor and went to Jasper who was standing in the middle of the room, trying to get used to his paw being in a cast. The rest of the shadow wolves ran in as well to see that Brutus and Sidney had already jumped off of their respective beds and were guarding Jasper. "Did you hear him, Brutus?" you reached out with your mind.
"I heard him. Pack, we will be sleeping inside and staying inside going forward" Brutus gave the order.
"Can we stay in Sam's den?" Sidney asked hopefully.
"I'm sure he will say yes. It's almost supper time" you said with your mind. You were trying to stand up, but having a hard time. Doctor Grant offered you his hand and you took it. You stood up to your full height and he seemed to be watching you curiously. "Thank you doctor," you said out loud. "Come on packs" you called and Jasper hobbled out first. Blue was whining to be picked up again and Doctor Grant looked at him like he was trying to figure him out. "I raised him since he was a newborn. I'm his mother" you explained. "I'm sure we will see plenty of each other soon" you walked away, going slowly by keeping pace with Jasper.

As soon as you came into the living room, you saw the entire team seated in various areas, along with Mama and Uncle Brad. Brutus went to Sam and put his large head on his lap.
"Hey big guy, look at you! I was so worried about you" Sam scratched him behind the ears.
"Oh, poor Jasper" Wanda cooed as Jasper got closer and she got down on the floor. He immediately went into her lap as she gushed over how brave he was.
"Luna, can you ask if we can stay with him?" Sidney asked you.
"Sam, the Shadow wolf pack want to stay with you since they will be living inside now" you told him.
"How did I get so lucky? Of course, we are going to need to make some extra room on the bed though, maybe go get you some beds for the floor" Sam had another one of the wolves named Cynthia come up and put her head under Sam's arm as though to say thank you. He looked over the moon with joy as the five wolves surrounded him with wagging tails.
"I'll go get started on supper. Songbird, I'd like a word with you" mama called you over and you grimaced, knowing exactly what was coming. You followed her into the kitchen and she calmly made her way around the kitchen getting ingredients to make butter chicken with rice, asparagus, and corn for the team's evening meal.
"Yes mama" you sat down on one of the stools and she seemed to be deep in thought before she spoke. She casually started with melting the butter in the pan and watching it closely.
"You know you are going to be a mother soon, and I think it's time we had a talk" she cleared her throat. "You are going to do things for your baby that you wouldn't do for anyone else. One thing you should be doing, is protecting them" she turned to glare at you. "You went after those monsters without a weapon, without protection, just with your temper. You could have risked their lives and your own because of your own pride. You need to think about things more clearly before you do them. You are growing quickly, and soon enough you will have to rely on others to protect you because you won't be able to do it yourself. You should have let them protect you today" she gave some slight sass. "I'm worried about you, and worried about going back because you aren't thinking like a mother. You are thinking like an Avenger" she turned to look at you.
"They were after my mate!" you defended yourself.
"Your mate is over six feet tall, a world class assassin and has a vibranium arm" she said with a deadpan voice. "His best friend is literally Captain America, and the entire team is full of assassins, gods, and enhanced. I think you can start sitting the fights out" she crossed her arms.
"Don't forget we have a hulk that was protecting you and the babies in here" Tony called in and you pinched your nose between your eyes with a sigh.
"Not to mention none of those people that you consider to be family would let a hair on you or your packs head get scratched. Jasper wouldn't have gotten hurt if you would have stayed inside. It was his duty as your companion to be at your side. He's like your baby too" she reminded you. "Am I understood?" she asked you.
"Yes mama" you sighed.
"Good, because I don't want to see you in the field ever again!" Uncle Brad called in. "Not while you're pregnant," he added.
"Now go rest, using all that fire was probably not good for the baby" she shooed you out of the kitchen and Uncle Brad came in with Soren to start helping. Bucky spread his legs where he was sitting on the couch and opened his arms. You went and sat on one of his legs, and curled into him, feeling upset that you had really put the pack and your baby in danger.
"Are we going home tonight?" you asked Bucky, feeling upset still.
"No" Tony answered for him and you looked at him curiously.
