A conversation with Brutus

Monday morning you woke up still entangled in Bucky's strong and capable arms. Neither of you had made it to go get the pack from Steve's place last night, having decided to focus on each other for a night. It was much needed, and your body was humming with pleasure. You could hear whimpering outside the bedroom door, and then Cloud chastising Blue for making too much noise. You gave a soft giggle and gave Bucky's arm a quick kiss.
"I like it better on the lips" his voice sounded from behind you. You turned in his arms and brushed your lips against his. He hummed happily and rolled you more onto your back as he deepened the kiss. "Good morning beautiful" he purred as he pulled back.
"Good morning handsome" you cooed to him.
"Are you up for another round?" he asked teasingly.
"Your fiance needs a bathroom, and your pack needs a walk" you told him quickly and he chuckled as he crawled off of you. You got out of bed quickly and made your way to the bathroom. You heard Bucky make the bed, and move around the room. You quickly used the facilities and washed up. When you came out you saw that he had picked up all of the clothes from last night and put them in the laundry hamper, and was in the middle of getting dressed. He was already in a pair of black jogging pants, and in the middle of putting on a tight black t-shirt. He caught you looking at him with an appraising eye, and he purposely flexed his muscles for you. You giggled and walked naked into the closet, squeezing past him. You purposely brushed your body against his as you went by and he gave a small growl before he bent forward and nipped your collarbone. You went about pulling out clothes for the day, going with black lace undergarments, a pair of black track pants and t-shirt to mirror your Bucky. He chuckled and handed you one of his sweaters before he put on one of his hoodies. You both wordlessly put on your sneakers before walking towards the bedroom door together.
"Mama!" Blue jumped at you as soon as the door opened and you caught him with a slight giggle.
"Good morning" you said in a singsong voice.
"We tried to let you sleep in" Cloud huffed a little.
"The little one needs to learn patience" Melody had a scowl in her voice. "He might be my little brother, but I could nip his tail"
"We are going for a pack walk, so we needed to get up," you announced.
"Are we going to play with the ball?" Jasper asked a little hopefully.
"Pick out your favorite one" you nodded. Bucky was looking at you with a million questions in his eyes and you quickly filled him in while holding Blue still.
"I promise to throw the ball lots" Bucky grinned and gave Jasper a pat on the head. Jasper went over to the toybox and picked out a bright green ball and held it in his mouth and brought it to Bucky. Bucky took it from him easily and put it in his pocket. Snow ran to the balcony door and pawed at it.
"Please" Snow gave a soft bark.
"We are coming" you promised, and you made your way to the door. You stopped for a moment to set down Blue before opening the door and the five wolves dashed out onto the balcony and down the steps. You felt Bucky behind you stretching and you turned your head to see him petting Alpine who was still up on top of his cat tree. You reached up and gave him a small scratch behind the ears before you hurried out the door, leaving Bucky to say his good morning to Alpine. You got to the bottom of the steps and took a moment to do a few stretches. Cloud let out a loud whine and sat down next to you, hit tail thumping loudly as he wagged it excitedly.
"We haven't done our walk in months" Cloud took in a deep inhale of fresh air. You silently agreed, and reached down to card your fingers through his fur. Blue was running all around the grass excitedly, while Jasper and Snow playfully chased after him. Melody wagged her tail but only watched them, standing still.
"Is it safe to go in the woods, mama?" Blue ran over to you while Bucky started making his way down the stairs.
"Mama and Papa and the rest of the pack will be right with you. I'm going to look for the shadow wolves while we are out, I'd like to ask them some questions" you nodded. "You'll be safe, Blue," you promised.
"Are we going for a full walk?" Melody asked hopefully.
"A full walk" you confirmed and her tail started wagging excitedly.
"Okay, I'm here" Bucky announced as he got to the bottom step. He reached out and took your hand and you immediately started leading him into the woods. Cloud and Melody kept pace beside you while Jasper, Snow, and Blue ran ahead on the pathway. Bucky pulled out the ball with his left hand and threw it hard, and it soared over the wolves heads. Melody and Cloud were quick to chase Jasper, Snow and Blue further into the woods. You couldn't help but giggle, this was one game they weren't going to let Blue win by the looks of it. Jasper came trotting back with his head held up proudly, the ball in his mouth and he went to Bucky to give it to him. Bucky chuckled and happily threw it again while the two of you continued to walk at a leisurely pace. Bucky would wait for you to step over the roots of trees, and fallen trees before he would step over them, to make sure that you were safe. While you walked, Bucky continued to throw the ball for the pack and to your surprise they all brought it back at least once each. Even young Blue brought it back proudly and gave it to Bucky, holding his head up high.
As you got close to the compound again you saw Brutus, the Alpha of the shadow wolf pack, and the rest of his pack following him come towards you.
"Hello Brutus" you waved to him and he slowly walked until he was in front of you. Both you and Bucky stopped and he sat back on his haunches.
"Good morning Luna, and Alpha" he inclined his head slightly. "What brings you outside today?"
"Well, to be honest, we've been wanting to get back into our walks again, but I did want to speak to you" you said softly and he tilted his head slightly to the side in curiosity.
"Alpha Brutus!" Blue came running back, chasing Snow who had the ball this time.
"Good morning little one" he gave a slight chuckle as Blue jumped on his back. You were about to admonish Blue for rough housing, but Brutus laid down and rolled to play with Blue. You could tell they were used to playing with one another and you held back. You saw Bucky was going to say something, but you squeezed his hand and gave a soft shake to your head to tell him no. He sighed, but nodded, letting Blue continue to play.
"What are they doing with the ball?" one of the other shadow wolves asked.
"We chase it! It's such a fun game" Melody informed him. "We like to see who gets to it first"
"What's the purpose of it?" another asked.
"It's just for fun. You should try it" Jasper gave a slight huff.
"Maybe" the first one wagged his tail slightly. "You just chase the ball, and bring it back?" he asked.
"You can do it with branches too," Snow informed him. You looked down to see Blue was having the time of his life with Brutus.
"Come on, throw the ball" Melody gave a soft bark wagging her tail excitedly.
"Throw the ball, honey" you whispered to Bucky who nodded and threw the ball as far as he could. Blue immediately rolled off of Brutus and took off after it, and a few of the shadow wolves raced after the rest of the pack chasing the ball.
"He's a ball of energy," Brutus chuckled. "What was it you wanted to talk to me about?"
"Blue said there were monsters in the woods" you let go of Bucky's hand and sat down on the cold, hard ground.
"We did see strange wolf-like beasts, standing like men, a week ago. They were skulking in the woods and looking at the compound" Brutus confirmed your worst fear.
"Have you seen them since?" you asked softly, a slight quiver in your voice.
"No, but we are patrolling more diligently. Does this have to do with Hydra?" he asked.
"Yes, they are after a few of our pack members, my mate included" you confirmed.
"I'll come to the door if I see them again," Brutus promised. "I know which one is yours," he added as an afterthought.
"I also wanted to let you know that I will be leaving for a few weeks, but the pack will be here, as will my mother and uncle who both can speak with animals as well. The Alpha and I are doing a human mating ceremony, and taking a small vacation afterwards" you informed him.
"I'll make sure to go to the ones that smell like you" he promised.
"Also, it's going to be getting very cold soon. Did you and your pack want to come inside yet?" you asked a little hopefully.
"We are used to the winters being far more treacherous. We will be fine. And thankfully we do not have to hunt since someone brings out food for us three times a day" he looked over his shoulder to see Blue coming running with the ball proudly in his mouth.
"That's usually Sam" you gave a soft smile.
"Sometimes he sends another human, we stay away until they leave if it's not Sam" he chuckled as Blue handed Bucky the ball, and proceeded to jump on Brutus' back again.
"Doll, you shouldn't be on the ground like that" Bucky finally interjected since Brutus was busy with Blue.
"I was having a talk with Brutus" you looked up and gave a slight smile. Bucky held out his hand, and you took it and he pulled you up to your feet again.
"Are you going to fill me in?" he asked in a soft whisper.
"Of course, but you might want to throw the ball" you pointed out since the two packs were now waiting excitedly. Bucky chuckled and threw the ball again. Blue didn't bother running after it this time, but continued to play with Brutus on the forest floor. You watched them endearingly while the two packs played together. One of the shadow wolves brought back the ball this time and dropped it on the ground in front of Bucky who good naturedly picked it up and threw it again. It was like he understood they were a little timid when it came to humans. He continued to play with them for the better part of half an hour before you realized the time.
"Okay Blue, it's breakfast time" you told him, and you looked over your shoulder to see Sam coming out with the six plates of steaks cut up. He carefully set them down and spaced them apart and whistled. Brutus and the other shadow wolves perked up automatically and went to run to him while Blue gave a soft whine.
"I'm hungry too," Blue whimpered.
"We are going inside, we will take the side door" you assured him.
"Time to go in?" Cloud asked as he dropped the ball in Bucky's outstretched hand. You gave a nod and started to lead the way back inside, softly whispering to Bucky about your conversation with Brutus while Blue wasn't paying attention.
