Pups

After your little discussion with Blue, you held Bucky's hand a little tighter. It was selfish, but it was good to know that you weren't suffering in this alone. The team seemed really excited to have weapons they could use now, that would in theory, work. Blue didn't want to be let down to play with the other pups, and you noticed Edwin and Anastasia kept going to Bruce and Tony to be picked up as though they were afraid their parents would disappear again suddenly and they wouldn't get to see them for another long period of time. Blue curled up in your one arm and nuzzled his face into the side of your neck and whined a majority of the time. The wind was blowing quite heavily this morning, a good sign that autumn was in full swing and Tony announced it was time to go inside and suggested the common space for the team to hang out in. You could tell a majority of the team was exhausted, but they weren't saying no to spending time together as a family.
"Can I be just a little late?" you asked Tony as the group of you started making your way back in the building. "It's just, Jasper and Snow are here with the pups, and I'm dying to see them"
"Sure, I can understand that" Tony ruffled your hair in a parental manner and led the rest of the team inside. You grabbed Steve's arm and he stopped to look at you curiously.
"May I..." you started and his face broke out into a smile.
"Come on" he nodded. Bucky put his hand in the small of your back as Melody and Cloud followed behind you closely, and you followed Steve towards his room. His room it turned out wasn't that far from yours and you danced from one foot to another as he unlocked his door. As soon as the door was opened, you raced past him to see Jasper and Snow laying on one of the dog beds from home with their pups.
"My babies" you exclaimed hurrying into the room. Snow and Jasper jumped up and raced to you and you fell to your knees automatically, setting Blue to the side for a moment while embracing the two large sized wolves. They knocked you back a bit in their excitement and you fell back onto the floor with a large "oomph" as they both pressed their foreheads to yours before licking your face. You finally felt complete, like you weren't missing such a big part of you any longer. All of your companions and your mate were in the room with you again.
"You've been gone so long, Y/N" Jasper whimpered loudly.
"We've missed you so much" Snow added quickly and licked your cheek.
"I've missed all of you so much" you felt tears welling up in your eyes again, and they slowly started falling down your cheeks.
"You've missed so much" Jasper added and half laid down on top of you in his excitement, while Snow did the exact same. You heard four little howls, before Blue quickly joined them. Cloud went over and looked at the pups, and you could see pride in the way he was holding himself.
"What are their names?" you asked as they let you up finally, tears still falling down your face.
"Cedar, Koa, Zephyr are the boys, but we wanted Steve to pick our little girl's name since she's going to be living with him. Bucky and Steve have discussed it in length, and we agree to let her go live with him" Snow told you, and you scrambled over to look at the three black pups who were moving around quite a bit.
"Cedar, Koa, and Zephyr" you cooed to them, picking each of them up and pressing your forehead against theirs. They didn't seem to know what to make of the motion, but called out for their mommy.
"What's the girl's name?" Steve seemed excited to know.
"That's for you to decide, she's going to live with you" you gave Steve a smile and Bucky clapped him on the back heartily a few times.
"Seraphina" Steve seemed to think about it for a moment before he whispered the name.
"Seraphina, sounds kind of like a part of your mom's name" Bucky looked at him for a moment.
"Hello, Seraphina" you picked up the white pup and held her close for a moment. She squirmed in your hold and Blue came over and barked at her playfully. She stopped in her tracks and barked back at him. You held her to your forehead for a moment and she whimpered, but didn't move for the action. "You are going to go to such a good home" you cooed to her.
"They really waited for me to name them?" Steve seemed a little shocked at the notion.
"They really did," you smiled at him happily. "They said that you and Bucky had been talking about her coming to live with you, and they wanted to give you that honor. They approve" you saw Steve looked shocked. He sat down on the side of his bed, and you handed him Seraphina and he cooed to her as he held her close. She seemed completely at home in Steve's arms, and barked at him happily saying the word "Steve" over and over again. "She knows your name" you told Steve and he looked over the moon knowing that.
"We will have to hook you up to the machine so we can hear her when you come home again" Bucky got down on the floor beside you and watched you, almost enchanted with the way you interacted with the pups.
"How do you feel about a change of scenery?" you smiled at Jasper and Snow.
"You mean go around all the humans?" Snow seemed a little apprehensive.
"We will just sit in the common room, together as a pack" you continued to try to talk them into it.
"Will the pup's be safe?" Jasper seemed apprehensive as well.
"I wouldn't bring anyone in with me if it wasn't safe. It's just I want to stay together as a family" you felt Blue curl up on your lap and give a soft bark.
"We will go, but we want the bed to keep the pup's warm" Snow and Jasper looked at one another before answering.
"They will come with us if we bring the bed" you looked at both Bucky and Steve who nodded eagerly. Steve picked up the four pup's and held them close while Bucky grabbed the bed. You carried Blue close to your chest while Cloud, Melody, Jasper, and Snow followed the three of you out of the bedroom. Bucky took a moment to lock Steve's door before you led them the way to the common room. It took a few minutes to get there, and when you arrived you saw the team had left you and Bucky a love seat. Bruce almost started cooing when he saw the four pups in Steve's arms. Bucky quickly put the dog bed down in front of the love seat, and Steve slowly put in the four pups before Snow went into the dog bed and curled up around them.
"So, what are their names? We've been dying to know" Wanda asked quickly.
"Zephyr, Serephina, Cedar, and Koa" you smiled happily, pulling Blue in close to you and giving him a kiss on top of the head. He whined softly and nuzzled into you more. "Serephina will be going to live with Steve" you announced and saw a small blush go across Steve's cheeks. Bucky sat down on the love seat and tapped his lap expectantly. You went to sit beside him instead, but he pulled on you last minute and you landed on his lap with a giggle.
"Let me guess, Steve is babysitting tonight" Sam quipped and your face felt heated at the insinuation.
"That's right, put in your ear plugs" Bucky didn't miss a beat in responding to him. "It's been a month"
"Bucky" you tapped him on the chest with flamed cheeks.
"It's your only warning. I'm not letting a moment go to waste" he whispered into the shell of your ear and you giggled.
"We were discussing your abilities, they sound fascinating to say the least" Loki spoke up, changing the subject for you.
"Which ability?" you asked, looking around the room carefully to make sure there wasn't anyone too close that could overhear.
"Worry not, they cannot hear us" Loki reassured you. "The one where you bond to animals, and humans. You've made quite an addition to the team" he leaned forward, seeming invested in the conversation.
"To be honest, I didn't mean to bond myself to Bucky. I didn't know it was possible" you admitted.
"It's fascinating. In all of the nine realms, we have never heard of such a thing" Thor added in quickly.
"You're being too kind, I think" you whispered.
"We were thinking of testing your ability of communicating with other animals on creatures from other realms" Loki grinned, looking at Bucky's face for a reaction.
"No, I think I'll stick to Earth. Thank you though" you looked at Bucky's face, which had darkened a bit at the idea. Clearly he wasn't a fan of the idea.
"It's a pity, there's so much we could learn" Loki sat back in his chair a bit.
"I don't like to be separated from my pack, or my family" you gave a small smile.
"It is to my understanding, to you, that is one and the same" Loki looked at you curiously.
"It is, to be honest. I forget myself sometimes. When speaking to the wolves, I normally say pack. When speaking to humans, I say family. It's a different word, but has the same meaning" you admitted softly.
"Mama, papa has candy. Can I have one?" Blue cut into the conversation. You looked at Bucky, and saw Blue was sniffing at his front pocket.
"Honey... Blue wants a candy" you turned your attention to Bucky who chuckled in response. He took a singular treat out of his pocket and fed it to Blue who hummed happily inside of your head. "What are these tricks you are teaching him anyways?" you asked Bucky who flushed a bit.
"Play dead, fetch, sit, lay down... just general stuff. Melody likes doing it too. Play dead was the hardest one, but I figured it would be important in case the compound ever got attacked. He could play dead until help comes" Bucky whispered to you. You nodded in understanding, and watched as Cloud cuddled in with Melody on the floor, the two of them wrapped up in one another. You mused that's probably how you and Bucky looked as you wrapped your arm around his shoulders to get a better posture while you were sitting on his lap. Bucky quickly wrapped both arms around you and Blue and gave you a celebratory kiss on the cheek.
"You know, we've been fighting these werewolf creatures, they are pretty strong," Clint said after a few minutes of silence. "Anything you three have learned?"
"They are like supersoldiers, have a high tolerance to chemicals, and pain" Tony answered quickly. "Y/N burnt the one that we have pretty badly, and he was still able to maneuver around pretty good, and even tried making a second escape attempt"
"But he did have an aversion to fire, which was interesting" Bruce added, pulling Nat in to cuddle into him more.
"Which is one of the reasons I think I should be in the field" you spoke softly. "I know I can't, but I can't help but think I would be more useful there"
"We need you in the lab, we have gotten pretty far with the serum with your help. That and the benefits of the weapons we designed together as a team is going to be astronomical. The three of us are the lab team for the next eight months" Tony reminded you and you nodded in understanding.
"When are we going to see these weapons?" Nat asked curiously.
"In the next few days, they are still being created. We need to test them in the lab before you actually take them for a spin" Tony answered easily.
"We tested the prototypes, but we need to make sure the actual weapon itself isn't going to fail out in the field" you added quickly. "We don't want any room for error, which is why we were still supposed to talk about it"
"I had to make a decision, besides, yours truly was behind making them" Tony grinned to himself. You shook your head, sometimes forgetting he had such a big ego.
You listened as conversation went around the room, and you just nuzzled more into Bucky as Blue rested on your lap. He seemed content for the time being and that brought you some semblance of peace. You were glad to be with your entire pack again, and felt whole. Everything seemed to be so right at the moment, and you couldn't help but wonder if life could get any better than this.
