No one is asking for the this but as a dual exercise in both writing and staving off the relentless onslaught of suffering, also known as depression, I am writing an inspiration list. A list of things I love. Normally when I'm stuck in my writing, I make Pinterest boards but when that fails, I make these lists of media. I draw upon stories and aspects from them that I enjoyed, using it as inspiration. Without farther ado here is part 1 of ??? of things I like.

Characters from books, movies, comics, shows, etc.

Peter Parker/ Spider-Man

I like the idea that this guy behind the mask can be anyone. I love Stan Lee's thought process in creating him. He is just a regular guy that suddenly becomes a hero and has to just keep going about his business letting people glorify a person that doesn't exist while Peter just watches from the sidelines.

Raven Darkholm (kickass villain name am I right?) / Mystique

I love her! The sleek, sexy way she is presented in the movies, gaining confidence in herself, and shifting from this timid best-friend character to this powerhouse. Her comic portrayal is vastly different than that of the films, but I sort of like how everything is tied to her even if she is a villain where the movies play her off as an antihero of sorts.

James Logan/ the Wolverine

Logan is probably my favorite hero of all time. I love his grumpy, take-no-shit-fuck-off attitude. I also like the back-and-forth will-they-won't-they storyline with Jean Gray. He doesn't fit the standard good guy architype farther pushing the anyone can be a hero if they so choose narrative.

Peeta Mellark (the hunger games)

Need I say more? He is the standard to which man are held. He fell in love with her twice! Twice people!

Marc Specter / Jake Lockley/ Steven Grant/i.e. Moon Knight

I just want to give these guy(s) a hug, no joke. I love the way mental health plays into his story. The way, much like real life it is something we have to overcome, he just happens to also be a superhero. He has all the usual things to fight through in his hero's journey, moral dilemmas, love, etc. but in the way that it makes his story fantasy in that he has the power of a god he also has the cross to bear of a very real man. Moonknight tows the line between fiction perfectly balances it with elements from life.

Jean Gray/ Dark Phoenix

Okay I know she gets some shit, rightly so in some instances. For the most part Jean is a great character. Her relationship with Charles Xavier is the inspiration for bits of dialogue and characters in my own works. Plus, I think it's hilarious how basically in the comics she is relegated to being Professor X's assistant, but later on in the story we find out that she is twice as powerful.

Aspen Ledger (the selection)

He loved her when she was nobody. He cared more about America's future than he did about losing her love. Aspen is up there with some of the most selfless characters of all time.

Reid Diggory (serpent and dove)

He was noble and stuck to what he knew was right, even when misogyny and abuse were tolerated and encouraged by those around him.

Hayan Park (unholy blood)

My girl had a mission and stuck to it! She was a strong woman, something I struggle to find in many Manhwa. She was selfless and strong, and I loved how even though she had a male counterpart the relationship between them wasn't based on love (though they get together in the end SMH) or making one of them weak. I see this so often in female/male dynamics, the woman can't possibly be strong unless the man is sick/hurt/weakened/ or just downright useless.
