Feeling a scene of dull, aching pain from my injuries, my eyes flutter opened. The first thing I saw was a wooden ceiling.

Slowly sitting up, my fangs dug into my lip when a wave of pain came from my side. Gripping my side, I took in some deep breaths until the pain settled down.

Opening my eyes, panic filled me when I realized that I was laying on a bed. Quickly throwing the thin blanket off me, I flung myself off said bed, crashing to the ground which sent shocks of pain through me.

Panting and backing away from the bed, staring  at it with slight horror, ignoring the hurt I caused myself as my body began to trembled. I'm not allowed on beds.

Trying to move my bad leg closer, it felt weird. Looking down, there was something wrapped around it. My brows furrowed and I leaned forward to get a better look.

Going to grab it, long sleeves covered my hands. Looking away from the odd thing on my leg, I noticed that I was wearing an oversized shirt that looked to be handmade, clean, and new. Brand new. Panic returned.

Im not supposed to be wearing such nice clothing! Alpha will be very upset when he sees me like this! I'm gonna get punished!

Paying no attention to my injuries, I began taking off the shirt with some difficulty. When the shirt was halfway off, the sound of the door opening made me stop. Too late. I'm gonna get punished.

Hearing footsteps, I lowered the shirt. Backing up until my back was against the wall, eyes staring at the ground. The smell of food filled the room which my stomach growled for.

There was a loud gasp. "Young one, what are you doing on the floor? You're still hurt." It was a woman. Her voice was soft and full of concern. Concern she shouldn't have for me.

A tray was put down then the woman got closer. I pressed my back to the wall more, still shaking like a cowardly dog.

When she got to me, she got on her knee. Reaching out to touch my face, I flinched and she stopped in her tracks. Unmoving for a moment until she sighed and finally pulled away.

My eyes didn't follow after her as she stood up and sauntered away. Probably to leave. Who wants to be in the presence of a runt like me? She's probably going to tell Alpha that I was sleeping on a bed and am wearing nice clothing that aren't mine.

But no. The tray getting picked up rang in my ears and the woman came back, placing the tray of food right in-front of me on the ground. A bowl of soup and a cup of water. That didn't make me move through or trust this woman in the slightest.

Seeing the cup of water, I swallowed at how my throat suddenly felt so dry. The water was tempting but I still didn't move.

This could be a trick. A ploy to get me into trouble. So Alpha can punish be more. Plus, I'm not even allowed to have such nice food. Only scraps like the filthy mutt I am.

The door opened again and a calmness washed over me when I smelled a familiar scent. A pair of heavy footsteps came in and the woman got up onto her feet. "Alpha." Alpha?

Lifting my head slightly to see, there was an old maiden with brunette hair wearing bizarre clothing that I have never seen before. "Thank you, Amber. You may go." The woman, Amber, bowed and walked out. Closing the door behind her.

My mate turned to look at me, a frown on her lips as she tilted her head. "Aren't you hungry, little mate." I slowly nodded, feeling more comfortable with her. "Then why aren't you eating? The cooks made it just for you."

"I'm only supposed to eat the pack's leftovers. This to too nice for someone like me." A snarl left her, a look of anger on her face. But for some odd reason, I just knew that her anger wasn't pointing at me. That I was safe.

Tramping over, she sat down across from me and pulled the tray closer to her. She picked up the wooden spoon and dipped it into the soup, lifting it up, she moved it in front of my lips. I looked at her confused, not knowing what she wanted.

She moved the spoon closer. "Eat." Staring at her for a moment, I hesitated opened my mouth in which my mate pushed the spoon in. Swallowing the soup, my eyes widened on how delicious it was.Is this really for me? It's took good to be true.

Opening my mouth for more which my mate gladly did with a small smile, hand feeding me like a mother towards her young pup.

When I ate a third of the soup, I turned my head away when my mate tried to give me more. When she attempted again, I turned my head to the other side. "Eat. Your skin and bones." Pausing, I hesitantly shook my head. I can't

She let out an angry sigh but did put the spoon down. Facing her, watching as she closed her eyes. Looking annoying. Fear grew inside me. "I-I'm sorry."

"Don't apologize." She pushed her hair out of her face. "It's my fault for trying to force you. I shouldn't be giving you too much food anyways, you'll get sick by the sudden large amount of food you're receiving."

You shouldn't apologize to me. It's my fault for not doing better. I'll do better. I promise.

Handing me the wooden cup of water, I gladly took it, taking a sip before putting it down. Getting up from the floor, she picked up the tray and went to set it on a table that was underneath a window. "What's on my foot?"

She turned to me. "A split, so your foot can hurt properly. You have another on your hand. We can take it off when you're all heal up." She walked back. "We also changed your bandages. They were dirty and..." She growled, her eyes slightly glowing. "soaked in blood."

Pulling the shirt away, I looked to see that someone had indeed changed my bandages.

Knees against me chest, hands on top of them, I looked back at my mate who sat back down on the floor. "Who are you?" She rest her head against her hand. "Your mate."

"No-what's your name?" Can't call her 'My mate' forever. Plus, there was this urge to know it. To say her name. "How about you tell me yours first, then I'll tell you mine." The name Maya gave me when I was young? That's easy. "Iris."

"Iris." She whispered, testing my name and seeing how it rolled off her tongue. "Now yours?"

She looked at me and grinned. "I'm Azrael BlackWood."
