"Open up, little mate." Azrael turned to me and was grinned, wooden spoon with soup in hand. I growled, cheeks flush.
After a moment of silently staring at one another, my mouth slowly opened and my mate pushed the spoon in. How embarrassing.
There was a knock on the door. The both of us turned to look at it, Azrael scowled. Looking annoyed that we were disturbed. "Who is it?"
"It's Roxie and Leo, Alpha. May we come in?" Azrael growled, putting the spoon down and pulled me closer to her. "Come in."
The door swung open and the two werewolves walked in. Leo perked up and his face lit up when he saw me in Azrael's lap.
He rushed over to us in a blink of an eye, leaned down to be face to face with me. "Luna! It's so nice to finally see you again." He took a breath and he frowned, tilting his head. "You smell like Alpha."
There was a loud growl before Leo was shoved away from me. "Too close. Do it again, I'll rip your eyes out." Leo took a couple steps back while putting his hands in the air, smiling nervously. "Yes ma'am. No need to do that."
Azrael rolled her eyes as Roxie came over to stand at Leo's side. "What is it that you two want? I'm trying to have breakfast with my mate."
She grabbed her piece of bread and dipped it into her soup before taking a bite. I tilted my head in confusion when she did that.
Leo cleared his throat, my attention back on him. "We just wanted to inform you, our dear Alpha, that the clean up is finally finished and the council as well as Hawk has send word through Crows."
The hewolf smiled as Roxie took out two letters and handed it to Azrael. She put her piece of bread down and took them, still chewing her food as she read what was on it. The room quiet.
Swallowing, she smiled at reading the first letter. A rough chuckle escaping her. "Seems like the Silver Fang and Pine Forest packs are in disarray. They're aren't gonna be a problem to us any time soon."
She put the letter down and began to read the second one. Her smile going away after a moment of reading.
The arm that was around me tightened, pulling me closer to her as a scowl made its way on Azrael's face followed by a low growl. Eyes becoming dark.
"Those back-stabbing mutts dare to challenge me and insult my mate?" I felt her start to tremble from rage underneath me. "I'll have their heads for this."
Feeling her start to shift, I grabbed Azrael by her chin and made her look at me. Eyes starting at each other as Azrael paused, staring at me with anger.
"Calm down, Az. It's alright." She didn't tear her eyes off me, frown on her lips. After a moment, she sighed. Running her fingers through her hair, letter still in hand. "I'm calm."
Opening her eyes, I saw that they were back to their normal red and let go of her chin. Happy that she listened.
Grabbing the letter on the desk, Azrael hanged them over a candle's flame that was off to the side. The tips of the paper quickly catching on fire.
We watched as the flame slowly rose, engulfing the letters before Azrael dropped them on the desk. Didn't take long for only ashes to remain. She simply dusted them off to the ground with her hand.
Turning back, Leo and Roxie were starting at us, shock plastic on their faces with Leo's mouth agape. Their eyes wide. What's wrong with them?
"Roxie, Leo." They snapped their attention on Azrael, straightening their form and got rid of their shocked expressions. "Yes, Alpha?"
"Assemble a group of warriors and give the council a warning on who they're messing with. I don't take insults to my mate lightly."
They bowed their heads. "Right away, Alpha. We leave at dawn." The two turned around and quickly left, closing the door behind them.
"You didn't have to do that, Az." Turning back to Azrael, she only stared at me. Face cold. "I'm use to being insulted, there's no reason for you to waste others time for something so small."
"Something small?" The Alpha growled, moving her face closer to me. "This isn't something small, Iris. You're mine. No one shall insult you no more. You have already been through enough."
I sighed, knowing that Azrael wasn't going to let this go or change her mind on the matter. Goddess, why did she have to be so stubborn? "If you say so." I just want to know what the warriors are gonna do to the council as a warning.
The werewolf council isn't a group of people you should mess with, they're both powerful and dangerous. I've overheard from the Alpha years ago that the old council was replaced with younger people.
"Az, why do you hate the council so much?" I looked up at her as Azrael, who grabbed her piece of bread and took a bite. "You always call them traitors, why?"
"Because they are." She said as she chewed, which was disgusting. "Speak or chew, don't do it at same time." Azrael looked at me side eyed but did swallowed the food in her mouth before speaking again.
"The council turned their back to the moon goddess and the way on how we live. They accepted human technology and gadgets to live, which brought disorder to packs."
"How so?"
"Ever since packs accepted human technology, the way they lived has changed. They became greedy for human money, even selling their own pack mates for it. They no longer hunt and eat junk, young ones have become lazy and weak. Abuse to the lower ranks has skyrocketed.
Yes it has brought better medicine for sickness, but it still brought more bad than good. That is why I have taken this situation into my hands to fix." I stared at Azrael in shock, my breath stuck in my throat.
Packs sell each other for money? Is that really true? If it is, then Lily...I thought..."Does the council know about this?"
"Of course they do, they're the people that let this happen years ago. I was around fifteen, just turned into an adult by hunting and killing a bear all on my own. Ever since I've been trying to put wolf kind back on track and have been slowly succeeding." She grabbed her cup and took a sip.
Ever since she was fifteen? "How old are you now?" She put her cup down wiped her chin, sighing. "34." Wow, she's younger then I through.
There was another knock on the door. Azrael groaned annoyed, putting her head down. I giggled at that. "What is it now?"
"Anassa Alpha, some people wish to speak to you."
