Opening my eyes, the first thing I saw was my mate. Her scent filled my nose which immediately made my tail start to wag. She was so beautiful. She was tall with jet black hair and red eyes.

And seeing her for the first time, I felt my heart skip a beat.

My mate who was watching me furrowed her brows. Looking confused as she placed a hand on her hip, tilting her head. "Your scent changed." She mumbled. "Are you...perhaps... Iris's wolf?"

I didn't speak. Just stared up at my mate as I sat there, my tail still wagging. She sighed at my silence. "Well, might as well let her have control as well then."

Going over to a tree and hiding behind it, I waited until a giant wolf with pitch black fur emerged not even a minute later. Eyes dark which showed that my mate's wolf was in control now.

The giant beast circled me, eyes fixated on me while I didn't move a muscle. Unafraid and just watching her where I sat.

After a while, she stopped and slowly came up to me, like a predator hunting her prey. Staring down at me with her dark piercing gaze.

Face to chest with her, her body towered over mine by a good two or three feet. But despite that, I felt no fear.

I actually leaned forward, muzzle pressed against her matted fur and took in a deep breath. Taking in more of her scent. It's lovely.

She smells like the forest mixed with...bacon? Huh. What a weird coronation.

Hearing a rough chuckle, I snapped out of my thoughts and leaned away from my mate. Looking up at her, wondering what was so funny.

She leaned down so we were eye to eye. "You're adorable, little pup." I bared my teeth at her and let out a soft and low warning growl, which the giant oaf ignored.

I would have mistaken her for male if it weren't for her voice being slightly feminine.

"What is your name, mate." My ears twitched at that, tail stop wagging and wrapping about me as I paused, thinking about what she just said.

Wolves are creatures that don't give out their names under most circumstances. They are import to us because the Goddess herself gifted them to us and they represent who we are. So, they must be dealt with with care.

We don't even let our persons know our names despite growing up alongside them. But, the being before me is my mate. Therefore, she can be trusted with it. "It is Swift. Yours?"

"What a lovely name." She grinned. "I am Thorn."

"Thorn." I tested, liking how the name felt as I said it. So did Thorn cause she shivered when I spoke it, her breathing becoming slightly heavier. "Say it again."

My head turned in confusion. "What? Thorn?" She shuttered again. Spotting something, I looked down and a blush quickly formed on my cheeks. Seeing the hard-on my mate had.

Why-why is it so big? Did Iris really have sex with that?

"I love it when you say my name. It'll be better if you screamed it through."

My blushed darkened at that, my eyes snapping up towards her. "Oaf." I mumbled, getting up and began walking away. Smacking Thorn's face with my tail.

Walking deeper into the forest, Thorn recovered from the slap and chased after me. Instantly at my side. "A feisty little thing you are, mate. You know, normal wolves wouldn't dare disrespect me like that."

"Well, I'm not other wolves." I stepped in front of Thorn, stopping her in her tracks and looked up at her. "Now, I've been locked away by my person ever since she was a small pup."

Thorn's grin fell as she stared down at me. "I want to enjoy the first night of being free running through the forest. Care to join me?"

Being silent for a bit, Thorn answered. "Of course, little pup. How about we play a game of chase where you run away from the big bad wolf."

She grinned while I scowled annoyed. "I will appreciate it if you stop calling me pup."

Thorn chuckled, leaning down next to my ear and whispered, "You better start running, pup. I'm not gonna go easy on you." She pulled away.

Glaring at her, I mumbled. "Now I understand why the Goddess gave you such a name. Cause you're a real thorn in my side." Turning away, I started to run.

Darting through the trees and bushes, feeling the wind go through my fur and my paws pounding against the dirt. I felt a sense of freedom.

Suddenly from behind, there was a loud howl before sounds of my mate giving chase filled my ears, not taking long to catch up with me.

She's pretty fast and skilled. But, let's put that to the test.

Just as Thorn reached me and was about to grab me with her jaws, I suddenly stopped and Thorn ran past me.

She slowed down to turn back and pounced, in which I dodged and she flew over me. Before she could recover, I started to run again and Thorn gave chase once more.

Using my small height compare to hers and the trees to my advantage, I escaped my mate at the very last second whenever she tried to grab or pin me down.

Feeling her frustration began to seep out from the bond, I smirked just as I took a sharp turn and Thorn ran past me. Tripping over a rock and crashing into a tree, making said tree break and go timbering down. Sorry, not sorry.

We played this cat and mouse game until my lungs were burning from all the running and my legs were about to give out. Panting, I went to the nearest lake to take a break.

Thorn broke through from the bushes, stopping in her tracks and looked around for me. Spotting me next to the lake taking a drink.

Breathing heavy, she chucked. Shaking her head before walking over to me. "Finally caught you, mate." She laid down next to me. "You are a slippery one."

I licked the water off my muzzle, laying right beside my mate. Putting my head over my paws, staring out at the lake. "How was it? Being free after everything."

"It was really nice. I thank you for running with me tonight, it was really pleasant." I felt Thorn watching me. Turning to look at her, I saw pity in her eyes. "Do you...harbor any hate towards Iris for locking you away?"

Staring at the Alpha, not saying a word, for a moment, I shifted my gaze back towards the water. "Not entirely. She was a mere pup trying to survive a hell hole. You and your person have already been informed about what type of life she lived with the Golden River Pack. How she was manipulated and abused.

I am a little angry that she locked me away and dealt with all that on her own but I understand where she was coming from. Back then, I had a short temper which caused trouble. Besides, in the end, your person saved her and took her away from there. So, thank you for saving her."

Feeling something wet against my cheek, I turned my head at Thorn, realizing that she had licked me. "You two are our mate, we were going to save you no matter what." She nuzzled her face against my head. "And no one is going to lay another finger on you. Especially now since you carry our pup."

She put her upper leg over my body, pulling me closer to her and snuggled against me. Pressing her muzzle against my fur.

I huffed, wiggling away from her and sitting up. "You're so warm." I mumbled, ignoring my blush and embarrassment.

Thorn laughed, also sitting up. "Cute." She took a breath, her smile falling into a frown. "It'll be best if we return to the others, our persons have to sleep for tomorrow's run."

I nodded, turning around with Thorn on my tail and headed back to where our clothes were. Shifting when we got there and let Iris take back control.
