Chapter 10: Voicemail
Andy's POV
I picked up my phone after getting off the stage at sound check. I looked and saw I had a missed call from an unknown number and a voicemail. I sighed and clicked on my voicemail as I began walking towards the exit of the venue, assuming it was a spam call. I listened to the automated voice, my finger ready to press 7 to delete the message.
"H-Hi Andy, it's Mia. Uhm, call me back," I heard the click of the message ending and then heard the automated voice pick back up. I stopped walking, my jaw practically on the floor. Her musical voice wrapped itself around my brain as flashbacks of our night together came flooding back. I replayed the message about five times, still is disbelief that she had called me after all this time.
Something sounded off with her. She sounded nervous. Scared. Upset. Totally opposite from the bold, confident girl I met at the bar.
"Andy, you coming back to the bus?" CC questioned.
"Y-Yeah," I said, shaking my head and ending the call.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
"Nothing," I said, running my fingers through my hair and letting out a sigh.
"That is not nothing," CC chuckled.
"I just got a call from Mia," I said and CC looked at me with a raised eyebrow. "The girl from the bar," I added and realization crossed his face.
"Oh my god!" he exclaimed. "This is great! Right?"
"Y-yeah, I think," I said, sliding my phone back into my pocket. "I-I just didn't expect to hear from her again. I don't even know how she got my phone number."
"You gave it to her."
"I did?"
"Yeah, you wrote your number on a napkin and she put it in her purse."
"Oh god, I drank so much," I groaned, putting my head into my hand. "If she's had my number for 2 months, why is she just now calling me?"
"Why don't you call her, dude?" he asked and I shrugged.
"She sounded nervous, not like herself."
"Andy, you spent less than 12 hours with her. You don't know what 'herself' is. Just call her."
"Yeah," I said with a sigh.
"Come on, we need to get back to the bus," he said and I nodded. I followed him to the bus and went straight to my bunk, sitting on it. I sat for an hour, to nervous to call her back.
"Just fucking do it Andy." I grumbled to myself. I unlocked my phone and clicked on my recent calls, hovering over her number. I took a deep breath and clicked on it, pressing call.
Mia's POV
I was sitting on the couch when my phone rang. I looked and saw the familiar string of numbers. I stared at it with wide eyes as my ringtone rang through the room.
"Is that Andy?" Claire questioned. I just nodded. "Pick it up!" she exclaimed. I nodded again, took a deep breath, and pressed answer. I brought the phone to my ear and Claire mouthed for me to put it on speaker. I pressed speaker and held the phone between us.
"H-Hello?" I answered.
"Hey Mia." Andy answered quietly. I felt my heart flutter at the sound of his voice.
"Hi Andy."
"Uhm, you called?"
"Yeah, uhm," I said, looking at Claire with wide eyes.
"Coffee, coffee," Claire whispered at me.
"Mia?" Andy questioned.
"Uhm, do you want to go get coffee?" I asked nervously.
"Andy, one minute!" a voice called.
"I'll be there!" Andy called back to the voice. "Sorry, uhm, I would love to, but I'm currently on a, uh, work trip. I'm out of state. Maybe when I get back?"
"Sure, sure," I said, chewing on my lip.
"Okay, I won't be home for a month, so I'll call you then."
"Sounds good." I nodded.
"ANDY! LET'S GO!" A different voice shouted.
"Give me a damn second!" He snapped back. "Sorry Mia, I've got to go. I-I'll talk to you later," He said, sounding disappointed.
"Bye," I said as we hung up. I dropped the phone to the couch and Mia clapped happily.
"Told you the world wouldn't end," she smirked.
"Yeah, now I have to wait a month," I groaned.
"That's a month to talk yourself into it," she laughed.
Andy's POV
"Mia?" CC questioned as he stood in the doorway of the bunk room. "You actually called her?" he asked, shocked.
"Yeah," I sighed quickly.
"What happened? What did she want?"
"She wanted to meet up, to get coffee."
"What'd you say?"
"I told her we would when I got back."
"Did you tell her you're on tour?"
"I said I was on a work trip," I chuckled. "Not technically a lie."
"Come on, let's go," he said, going back out to the lounge. I sighed and stood up, leaving the bunk room. This is going to be a long month.
