Chapter 21: Christmas

Mia's POV

*One Week Later*

I awkwardly fidgeted with my hoodie as Claire and I walked to baggage claim. I was planning on telling my parents that I was pregnant as soon as we got to their house, but I still wanted to be able to announce it without them figuring it out first.

"Are you sure I don't look pregnant?" I asked Claire.

"No, you just look like a marshmallow in that ridiculously oversized hoodie," she laughed.

"Shut up," I mumbled as we got on the escalator to take us down to baggage claim. I had convinced my parents to just wait in the car and I would come to them. I parted ways with Claire as she went to her family. I grabbed my bag and walked out of the airport. I waited for about a minute before I saw my dad's car pull up to the curb in front of me. I quickly tossed my bag into the trunk and climbed into the backseat.

"Hi! Merry Christmas!" my mom greeted.

"Merry Christmas," I said, buckling my seatbelt. My anxiety over my news has been growing all day, but had risen exponentially the moment I saw my parents' car.

"Your siblings showed up yesterday, so you were our missing puzzle piece!" my mom cheered. I had planned for this to be a short trip, just in case their reactions weren't positive. Today was the 23rd and I was flying home on the 26th. Luckily, my parents didn't make me talk on the ride home and seemed to accept the silence that I was pleading for. I felt like I was about to throw up the pretzels I had eaten on the airplane. I was so nervous.

Mia~ You're telling your parents this week, right?

Andy~ Yeah, at dinner tonight

Mia~ I'm telling them here in a few minutes and I'm so nervous. I'm worried about their reaction.

Andy~ I'm sure everything will be fine. Reassure them that I'm not going anywhere. I'm even down to talk to them on the phone if you need me to. It's going to be okay.

Mia~ Thank you :)

Andy~ Of course, let me know how it goes

My dad parked in the driveway and I took a deep breath. I got my suitcase out of the car and followed my parents up to the front door. My dad opened the door and the three of us walked in.

"Auntie Mia!" Lizzie exclaimed, racing up to me and hugging my legs.

"Hi girly," I smiled, ruffling her blonde curls. I started thinking how this will be my every day routine in just a few years. She let go and ran back to where she was coloring.

"C-Can I talk to you guys? Archer and Blaire as well," I asked my parents.

"Of course, is everything okay?" my mom asked and I nodded. My mom called my siblings into the living room as we all sat on the couches. Blaire looked at me with a knowing smile. I looked down at my feet and bit my lip.

"What's going on?" my dad asked.

"Uhm, I..." I started but trailed off, tears pricking my eyes. Blaire stood up and sat next to me, wrapping her arms around me. "Please don't be mad," I begged, looking at my parents.

"Mia, what on Earth is going on?" my mom questioned.

"I'm pregnant," I said quietly.

"Excuse me?" my dad asked, raising an eyebrow.

"I thought you didn't have a boyfriend?" Archer asked.

"I didn't. I don't," I said, receiving confused looks from everyone in my family except for Blaire. I took off my hoodie, exposing my baby bump.

"Oh my god, Mia, you're pregnant! How long have you know? How long have you been keeping this from us?"

"I found out when I was a little over a month pregnant, I'm now 4 months along."

"You knew you were pregnant at Thanksgiving and you didn't tell us?"

"I'm sorry, I just wasn't ready. I was waiting for a few things to fall into place before I told you."

"Blaire? Why are you not shocked? Did you know?" my mom asked my sister.

"Yeah, I made her tell me at Thanksgiving," Blaire answered.

"How the fuck did this happen, Mia?" my dad asked.

"Uhm dad-" my brother snickered.

"Shut up, Arch," my dad snapped. "Is it some random guy's baby?"

"Kind of," I said quietly.

"Mia Ann," my dad groaned.

"Listen, he's a really good guy, okay? We got a DNA test and confirmed it was his-"

"Oh my god, there were other options? Jesus Mia, what the fuck are you doing out there in LA?"

"I think we all know what she's doing," my brother smirked.

"Oh my god, can you just leave? You're making this worse!" I snapped at my brother.

"Sorry, sorry, I'll be quiet," he said, leaning back and holding his hands up in surrender.

"The father is really involved. I mean, he recently bought a house so our kid has a backyard to run around in! He's been to all of my appointments with me and he's really excited."

"So, you're having a baby with this man but you're not dating him?" my mom questioned.

"We're both not ready for a relationship," I said, shaking my head.

"Good God," my dad said, putting his head in his hands.

"It-it's a girl," I said quietly.

"Another girl!" my sister squealed, hugging me.

"Ugh, another one? Would it kill y'all to give me a nephew?" my brother groaned.

"Look, I'm 30 and not getting any younger. The father is super involved and has a really good job. I decided to keep the baby. I'm sorry I'm not perfect, but this is happening, so you either need to support me or pay for my plane ticket back home," I ranted.

"We're happy Mia, we're just shocked," my mom said.

"Dad?" I asked. He still had a stone cold glare on his face and had his eyes fixed on the wall.

"I want to meet this boy, what's his name?" my dad said simply.

"His name is Andy. I'm sure you'll meet him when the baby's born."

"No, I need to strike fear into him before that."

"Dad!" I groaned.

"He's not going to abandon my baby and her baby."

"He won't!"

"Being present during a pregnancy is a lot different than being present for an infant."

"Fine, I'll try to find a time with him."

"Thank you. I love you Mia and I just want what's best for you."

"I love you too dad," I said quietly.

I don't think I ever shared a picture of Claire, so she's at the top
