Chapter 52: Faking Smiles and Confidence
Mia's POV
*One Month Later*
"Please welcome, for the very first time, Mr and Mrs. Archer Palmer," the pastor said. Everyone clapped as my brother and his new wife walked up the aisle, hand in hand. Once they left the sanctuary, the wedding party filed out, and then the guests were finally able to leave.
"Oh I just love weddings," Blaire sang as we wiped a tear from her cheek. "Your move Andy," she said with a smirk.
"Blaire, stop," I snapped before Andy could say anything. She just laughed as we made our way to the reception area.
***
"Tired?" Andy asked as he sat next me to at our table.
"I can't party like I used to, I'm too old," I laughed.
"Nonsense," he said.
"My feet were hurting in these damn heels so I had to come sit down," I explained.
"Have you been having fun?" he asked. The reception would start winding down in about an hour and I was ready to go get in bed.
"Yeah," I said as I watched Archer dance with Kendyll. I smiled, knowing he couldn't wait to be a dad.
"Do you think you'd ever want to get married?" he asked. My head snapped to look at him so fast I almost broke my neck. I raised my eyebrow and a look of panic crossed his face. "This isn't me proposing, just wondering," he reassured.
"I think I would, yeah," I said with a small nod. I had made a lot of progress with my therapist about my attitude towards relationships and we are currently working on my feelings about marriage. Of course, Andy doesn't know this which is why it's interesting that he's bringing this up. "Not anytime soon though," I said, answering the unspoken question.
"Okay," he said, nodding.
"Would you want to get married again?"
"Yeah," he said with a genuine smile. I felt butterflies flying around my stomach as he looked at me with love in his eyes. "I love you Mia."
"I love you too Andy," I said, leaning over and kissing him.
"Come with me," Blaire said as she grabbed my wrist. I stood up and followed her. She led me outside and I immediately wrapped m arms around my body.
"Do we have to be outside? It's fucking cold," I said, my body starting to shiver.
"You're fine, we won't be here long. Do not fuck this up with Andy."
"What?"
"Your response to my joke after the ceremony."
"That was not a joke, Blaire," I said, narrowing my eyes at her.
"Half joke," she mumbled. "Come on, you guys live together and have a child together. Don't make him wait years to marry you."
"I'm pretty sure Andy would wait decades. He is in love and he's committed, and it's fucking terrifying."
"Mia," she sighed.
"Look, I'm in therapy. I'm working on my fear of relationships and commitment. We're currently discussing my feelings about marriage. I am trying Blaire."
"Just be careful of his feelings, Mia."
"I know, I know. I'm trying to make sure he gets what he needs from the relationship without sacrificing my mental health. I promise I'm trying. I am so in love with him Blaire and I don't want to lose him. I am scared every day that he's just going to up and leave. I am trying so damn hard to be enough," I said, wiping at the tears rolling down my cheeks.
"Oh Mia," she said, hugging me. "I'm sorry, you are enough. You guys look so happy. I'm glad you're trying and taking it seriously."
"Well, I'm cold but I can't go inside yet," I said, sniffling.
"Sorry," she chuckled lightly.
