Later that night

The clock struck 2 a.m. as Obanai quietly unlocked the door to their apartment. It had been a long, chaotic night at the bar, but he'd worked hard and fast to make it home as soon as possible. All he wanted now was to sink into the peace Mitsuri brought to his life.

As he stepped inside, the sight of her sitting on the bed caught his eye from across the apartment. She was curled up, her phone glowing in her hands, tears silently streaming down her face. Obanai's heart sank instantly.

"I'm home," he said softly as he made his way to the bedroom, his voice warm despite his fatigue.

Mitsuri didn't respond. She didn't even look up.

Obanai furrowed his brow in concern and stepped closer. "Mits?" he tried again, his tone more tentative now.

Still, nothing.

Finally, he stood beside her, gently reaching out to touch her head. "Hey, are you okay? What's going on—"

"Leave me alone," Mitsuri said, her voice trembling, but not with sadness—with something harsher, something sharp. She brush his hand away from her.

Obanai blinked, stunned. "Babe... what's going on? Talk to me."

She shook her head, biting her lip to keep her tears from spilling over. "I said leave me alone!" she snapped, her voice cracking as she finally turned to him, eyes red and glassy.

The force of her words hit him like a punch to the chest. His lips parted, searching for something to say, but all that came out was a confused, almost pleading, "Why?"

Mitsuri quickly stood up, putting some distance between them as she struggled to keep her composure. "Just stop, hovering over me—all the time, okay? You're suffocating me!" Her voice broke in each word. "Not everything's about you, Obanai!"

The words were like daggers. Obanai's mismatched eyes widened in shock, anger flickering beneath the surface. "What the hell, Mitsuri? Where is this all coming from?"

Her response was quick, cutting. "Uuughhh! I need space Obanai! Leave me alone!"

Obanai stood , his hands clenched into fists at his sides. His expression hardened, though there was still hurt in his eyes. "Fine," he said, his voice low and cold. "If that's what you want."

He turned and stormed out of the room, slamming the bedroom door behind him with a force that rattled the walls.

As the echo of the door faded, Mitsuri collapsed back onto the bed, sobbing into her hands. "I'm so sorry Obanai," she whispered to herself between broken breaths. "I'm trying to protect you..."

Meanwhile, in the living room, Obanai paced furiously before grabbing his jacket. He couldn't stay there—not like this. He yanked the door open and stepped out. The crisp night air biting against his skin as he tried to calm the storm inside him. Confused as to what happened between the time he left and when he came back.

Next Morning

The sunlight poured into the apartment as Mitsuri tiptoed out of their bedroom, fully dressed. Her heart ached as she caught sight of Obanai. He was sprawled on the couch, still wearing the uniform from work, dark circles under his closed eyes.

Her breath hitched at the sight of him. He looked so tired, so vulnerable. She'd hurt him—she knew that. She saw it in the way he couldn't even bring himself to sleep in their bed. But no matter how much it hurt her too, she couldn't stop now. She couldn't bear the thought of him dying because of her.
