Chapter Song: Bring Me The Horizon - "Doomed"
_____
Obanai stood at the apartment door, his chest rising and falling with exhaustion. His feet ached from scouring the streets, peering into every shop Mitsuri loved, questioning anyone who might have seen her. His heart had been pounding since he woke up to find her gone, a deep, gnawing fear eating away at him. He unlocked the door and stepped inside, bracing himself for an empty apartment once more. But then he heard it—the sound of water running from the bathroom. Relief and confusion washed over him at once. She's home?
He moved quickly, his boots clicking against the floor as he headed toward the sound. His anger burned hotter with every step.
Does she even know what I've been through these past hours?
But as he approached the bathroom door, something made him pause. Her muffled sobs pierced through the sound of the water. He froze, his hand on the doorknob, his anger melting into concern.
"Mitsuri..."
Before he could decide what to do, his eye caught the faint glow of her phone on the counter. The screen lit up with a notification.
He moved toward it, his brow furrowing as he saw the message from the unknown number Mitsuri received before.
His thumb hovered over the screen. Locked. He tried her usual password. Nothing.
His jaw tightened as he tried again. Nothing.
On the third attempt, he entered 0915—his birthday. The lock screen disappeared. The phone was unlocked.
Obanai stared at the open screen, his pulse hammering in his ears as he scrolled through the texts.
Photos of him. Photos of Mitsuri. Threats. Orders.
His heart felt like it stopped. Why... why is she talking to this person? What is going on?
Obanai tightened his grip on the phone, his knuckles turning white as he stared toward the bathroom. The anger and fear that had been boiling under the surface surged back with a vengeance. His voice cracked as he shouted, "MITSURI!"
He stormed toward the bathroom, shoving the door open. The sound of running water echoed through the tiled walls, and his mismatched eyes widened at the sight before him.
Mitsuri sat on the shower floor, water cascading over her trembling body. Her arms wrapped around her knees, her soaked hair clinging to her tear-streaked face. She looked up at him, her red, swollen eyes filled with panic.
"Mitsuri..." he rasped, his voice softening momentarily before his fear and frustration took over again. "WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN?! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT I'VE BEEN THROUGH TODAY?"
Mitsuri's lips parted as though she wanted to respond, but no words came. She flinched when she saw her phone in his hand, her panic flaring to life.
Obanai raised the phone, his hand trembling. "WHY ARE YOU TALKING TO THIS NUMBER?" he demanded, his voice growing louder. "DIDN'T I TELL YOU TO TELL ME IF THEY CONTACTED YOU AGAIN? WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME? WHY ARE YOU HIDING THIS FROM ME?!"
Mitsuri gasped and shot to her feet, water dripping from her trembling form. "Give it back!" she screamed, her voice cracking as she lunged toward him.
Obanai stumbled back, his arm shooting out to catch her. His other hand jerked the phone out of reach. "No! Not until you tell me what's going on!" he shouted, his grip tightening around her waist as she clawed at his chest.
"Obanai, stop!" Mitsuri cried, her voice frantic as she pushed against him. Her tears mixed with the water streaming down her face. "Please, you don't understand! I have to—just give it back!"
