Later that Night/ Obamitsu place

The hours crawled by as Obanai lay in bed, the darkness of the room punctuated only by the faint glow of Mitsuri's phone in his hand. His mismatched eyes stared at the screen, narrowing with thought as he reread the messages. Each line was seared into his memory, a puzzle he was determined to solve.

Mitsuri slept peacefully on his chest, her head rising and falling with each of his breaths. The warmth of her bare skin against his gave him a fragile sense of calm, but it was fleeting. His mind was too focused on the text messages.

The timestamp of the first threatening text stood out to him. It had come right after his encounter with Hakuji. It was clear who it was, Misaki.

Obanai's lips pressed into a thin line as his grip on the phone tightened. He felt a surge of anger but forced himself to stay calm. Mitsuri stirred slightly, her fingers curling against his chest, and he instinctively pulled her closer, placing the phone down and brushing against her hair.

But the tranquility was shattered as the phone buzzed on his lap. Another message from the unknown number.

"Obanai must be exhausted after his frantic search for you today. Tonight, you'll finish the job. A pillow should be more than enough to get it done."

For a moment, Obanai just stared at the screen, his expression unreadable. Then, a smirk tugged at the corner of his lips, sharp and venomous. He tilted the phone slightly, the glow illuminating his face, and his mismatched eyes glinted with cold determination.

Carefully, he shifted Mitsuri off his chest and onto the bed, making sure not to wake her. She murmured softly but didn't stir as he propped himself up against the headboard.

He tapped the reply button and began typing, each word deliberate, his smirk growing darker.

"You really think Mitsuri's strong enough to kill me with a pillow Misaki?"

He hit send and watched as the message delivered. The boldness of his reply was a calculated move. He wanted her to know that her threats didn't intimidate him—that he was ready for whatever she planned to throw at him.

Seconds ticked by, and the phone buzzed again.

"Big talk for someone who doesn't realize how close I already am."

Obanai's smirk didn't waver. If anything, it deepened. He typed again.

"Then stop hiding behind your little games and let me kill you"

The response came almost instantly.

"You think you're brave now, but let's see how brave you are when we finally rip Mitsuri away from you. Keep deluding yourself into thinking you're untouchable—it'll only make shattering you all the more satisfying."

Obanai's chest rose and fell steadily as he read the message. His thumb hovered over the screen, but he didn't reply this time. Instead, he let the phone rest on his thigh as he leaned his head back against the headboard.

"Mitsuri..." he whispered softly, his gaze shifting to her sleeping form. She looked so peaceful, so innocent, so beautiful, curled up with her hands near her face. It made his resolve stronger.

I won't let anyone hurt you. Not her. Not anyone.

The phone buzzed again, another message lighting up the screen.
