Chapter Song: Tomoki Hasegawa - Aki no Sora

________

🌷April🌷

By the sixth month, their home was steadily evolving, reflecting the new chapter of their lives. The spare room, which had once been an unused storage space, was transforming into a warm and inviting nursery. Mitsuri and Obanai decided on a soft cream beige color for the walls, a neutral and calming shade since they wanted the gender of their babies to be a surprise until birth.

As the weekend arrived, they spent the entire day working on the room together. Obanai carefully measured and painted the walls while Mitsuri sat nearby, supervising with a beaming smile. She was too far along to help with heavy lifting, but her enthusiasm kept the project lively.

"Obi, you missed a spot over there," Mitsuri teased, pointing at the wall with a paintbrush in hand.

Obanai stepped back to inspect his work, squinting. "Where? I don't see it."

"Right there!" Mitsuri giggled, leaning forward dramatically as if she could reach it from her chair.

Shaking his head with a chuckle, Obanai dipped his roller back into the paint tray. "You're impossible, you know that?"

"But you love me," she chimed, her voice sweet and full of affection.

"Yeah, I do," he admitted, glancing back at her with a small smile before returning to his task.

As the paint dried, they moved on to assembling furniture. Two identical cribs were carefully unpacked and laid out on the floor, surrounded by screws and instructions. Obanai knelt down, furrowing his brows as he examined the assembly guide.

"This can't be right," he muttered, turning the paper sideways.

Mitsuri, sitting cross-legged on a nearby blanket with her growing belly, burst into laughter. "Do you want me to read it for you?"

"I've got this," Obanai insisted, though his frustration was evident.

After several false starts and a lot of muttered swearing, the first crib finally came together. Obanai sat back, wiping his forehead dramatically. "One down, one to go."

"You're amazing," Mitsuri said softly, her voice full of admiration. She crawled closer and kissed his cheek, her hands gently resting on her belly. "Our babies are so lucky to have you."

He turned to her, his usually guarded expression softening. "I just want to do this right, Mitsuri. I've never done... this kind of thing before. I don't want to let you—or them—down."

"You won't," she assured him, leaning her forehead against his. "You're already everything they'll ever need."

With renewed determination, they worked together on the second crib, finishing it much faster now that Obanai had figured out the process. Mitsuri clapped her hands in delight when it was done.

They added a changing table, a cozy cream rocking chair, and a few shelves stocked with books Mitsuri had picked out—everything from bedtime stories to parenting guides. Once the room was complete, Obanai carefully draped soft quilts over the cribs and the furniture.

"We won't need these for a while, but now it's ready," he said, stepping back to admire their work.

"It's perfect," Mitsuri whispered, tears welling up in her eyes. She rested her hands on her belly, looking around the room with a glowing smile. "I can already imagine them here, Obi."

Obanai moved to her side, his hand naturally finding its place on her belly. He felt one of the babies shift slightly under his palm, and his heart swelled.
