☀️July☀️

The ninth month brought a mix of emotions—excitement, nervousness, and a quiet determination from Obanai to ensure everything was ready for the arrival of their twins. He double-checked, then triple-checked the hospital bags, reinstalled the car seats to be absolutely sure they were secure, and even read through baby care books late at night.

Mitsuri couldn't help but tease him.
"Obi, you're going to give yourself gray hairs," she said one afternoon as he rearranged the nursery for the third time in a week.

He turned to her with a sheepish smile, his hair falling slightly into his eyes. "I just want everything to be perfect for you three."

Mitsuri's heart swelled, and she pulled him close, resting her hand on his chest. "It already is," she whispered, feeling his arms wrap tightly around her.

As the days passed, Mitsuri's belly grew impossibly round, and Obanai was always by her side. Every time she winced or shifted uncomfortably, he was there with a glass of water, a back rub, or a hand to help her up. Their nights were filled with whispered conversations about the future, about the kind of parents they wanted to be.

One such evening, as they lay in bed, Mitsuri turned to him, her hand resting on her stomach. The room was quiet, the soft hum of the AC the only sound.
"Are you ready, Obi?" she asked, her voice tender.

He reached for her hand, intertwining their fingers as he gazed at her. His mismatched eyes were filled with a love so deep it made her breath catch.
"I've been ready since the moment we found out," he said softly.

She smiled, tears pricking the corners of her eyes. He leaned over, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead, and they held each other close, surrounded by the quiet anticipation of their growing family.

Later that night, sometime after midnight, Mitsuri woke up. A dull ache had taken root in her lower back, and her stomach felt tight and heavy. Shifting in bed was difficult; every movement seemed to intensify the discomfort.

She glanced over at Obanai. His face was buried in his pillow, his dark hair splayed messily across it, with a few strands caught in his mouth. He snored softly, his arms awkwardly sprawled above his head. Mitsuri couldn't help but smile despite her discomfort.
"You've been so tired lately, you deserve a good night sleep." she murmured to herself.

Not wanting to disturb him, she lay back down, closing her eyes and hoping the pain would subside. But as minutes turned into hours, the ache turned sharper, spreading through her body. When the first real contraction hit, she couldn't help but let out a low moan of pain.

Obanai stirred, mumbling something incoherent before sitting up groggily. His hair stuck up in odd angles, and he rubbed at his face with one hand.
"Mitsuri? What's wrong?" he asked, his voice laced with concern.

"I... I don't think I'm okay," she managed, gripping her stomach as another wave of pain rolled through her.

Obanai scrambled to turn on the light, his heart racing. His eyes darted to the bed and immediately widened when he saw a pool of water beneath her.
"Your water broke!" he exclaimed, panicking as he stood beside her. "Why didn't you wake me up earlier?"

Mitsuri gave him an apologetic smile, wincing as another contraction hit. "You looked so peaceful for once. I didn't want to disturb you..."

Obanai groaned, running a hand through his hair before quickly tying it back. "Mitsuri! This is not the time to let me sleep!"
