The days in the hospital dragged on, each one longer and heavier than the last. Mitsuri felt like she was trapped in a nightmare that refused to end. The sterile white walls of her room mocked her, devoid of the warmth and life she once shared with Obanai. The world outside the window seemed unreal, distant—a cruel reminder that time moved forward while she remained frozen, crumbling under the weight of her loss.

She clung to Obanai's sweater like it was her lifeline. The faint trace of his scent—woodsy, warm, with a hint of smoke—was her only tether to sanity. Each inhale brought a flood of memories: his arms around her, the way his eyes softened when he looked at her, the quiet strength of his presence that always made her feel safe. But now, that comfort was gone, torn away by the very people who claimed to love her.

At night, the emptiness of the room became unbearable. She would sit in the corner, rocking back and forth, clutching the sweater as if it could somehow bring him back to her. Her whispers filled the silence, fractured pleas to the man who couldn't hear her. "Obanai, I'm sorry. I didn't want this. I didn't want to leave you."

The guilt consumed her. She imagined him alone in their apartment, surrounded by the wreckage of their shared life. Was he eating? Sleeping? Did he hate her now, thinking she had abandoned him? The thought stabbed at her chest like a blade, twisting with every beat of her heart.

Her parents continued their visits, their concern etched into their faces, but Mitsuri could only feel anger—blazing, unrelenting anger.

"This is for your own good," Hiroshi repeated one afternoon, his tone as cold as the walls around them.

"For my own good?" she spat, her voice trembling with fury. "You think ripping me away from the one person who makes me feel alive is for my own good?"

"Mitsuri, he's dangerous," Hiroshi said, his voice rising. "You don't see it now, but one day you'll understand."

"You don't know him!" she screamed, her voice cracking under the weight of her pain. "He's not dangerous! He saved me!"

Hiroshi's face hardened, but he didn't respond. Instead, he turned and left the room, his footsteps echoing down the sterile hallway.

Rumi stayed behind, her soft voice attempting to soothe her daughter. "We just want you to be safe, Mitsuri. That's all."

But Mitsuri couldn't hear her. Her grief was too loud, her anguish too raw. She curled into herself, burying her face in the sweater as fresh sobs wracked her body.

_______
The nights were the worst. Alone in the suffocating silence, Mitsuri's thoughts spiraled into a darkness she couldn't escape. She imagined Obanai calling her name, his voice desperate and broken. She saw his face—pale, gaunt, his eyes hollow from sleepless nights spent searching for her.

"Obanai..." she whispered into the emptiness, her voice shaking. "I need you. I can't do this without you."

________
One night, the pain became too much. She pressed the sweater to her face, inhaling deeply as tears soaked the fabric. "I'll find a way back to you," she whispered, her voice trembling with determination. "No matter what it takes."

The resolve in her words frightened her parents when they overheard. They didn't understand that her love for Obanai wasn't something they could erase, no matter how many walls they built around her. It was carved into her soul, an unbreakable bond that no force could sever.

And so, as the days blurred into weeks, Mitsuri's grief turned into something sharper. Her sorrow was still heavy, but beneath it, a flicker of defiance began to grow. She wouldn't let them take him from her. She would find a way to reach him, no matter how impossible it seemed.
