Chapter Song: Damdamgugu - "Love"
Obanai took a steadying breath as he stepped out of the quiet hallway, his gaze shifting toward the front lobby where Mitsuri's parents were standing. They were busy observing the list of reservations for the day, their expressions calm but focused.
Rumi hand resting lightly on her coffee cup, her sharp eyes scanning the tablet. She frowned as she noticed Obanai walking towards them, his posture slightly tense as he reached her and Hiroshi.
"Obanai," she called out, her tone gentle but inquisitive. "I thought you went with the rest of the group outside. Everything okay?"
"Y-yes" Obanai began, bowing slightly. "May I have a moment to speak with you both? Privately."
Rumi tilted her head curiously but smiled warmly. "Of course, Obanai. Let's step into the other room."
Hiroshi narrowed his eyes slightly and nodding stiffly. "Very well."
They moved into a smaller room down the hall,as they entered, Obanai knelt down on the tatami mat, his posture rigid but respectful. Rumi and Hiroshi settled across from him, Hiroshi folding his arms over his chest as if already preparing to interrogate him.
Obanai lowered his head in a deep bow, his forehead almost touching the mat. His voice was steady, though there was a tremor of nervousness. "Thank you for allowing me this moment. I would like to humbly ask for Mitsuri's hand in marriage."
There was a pause, and then Hiroshi's voice cut through the silence like a knife. "Is Mitsuri pregnant?!"
Obanai's head snapped up, his face a mix of shock and mortification. "N-No, sir! Absolutely not!"
Rumi gasped, covering her mouth. "Hiroshi! That's an inappropriate to ask!"
Hiroshi huffed, crossing his arms tighter. "It's a valid concern! Why else would he rush to ask for her hand?"
Obanai straightened, looking Hiroshi in the eyes. "I assure you, my intentions are sincere. I'm not asking out of urgency but because I deeply love Mitsuri. She is the light of my life. Her kindness, her strength, and her ability to bring warmth into any room—she's the most incredible person I've ever met."
Rumi's eyes began to glisten, and she dabbed at them with her sleeve. "Oh, Obanai..."
"I also want to clarify," Obanai continued, his tone earnest, "that I'm not asking for this to happen immediately. I know there's still time for us to grow together, and I want to give her the best life possible. But I wanted to ask in advance, out of respect for both of you."
Hiroshi's expression softened slightly, though he still maintained a stern demeanor. "And how do you intend to take care of her? Marriage isn't just about feelings. You're the man—it's your responsibility to provide for her and your future family."
Obanai met Hiroshi's gaze, determination in his eyes. "I understand that responsibility, sir, and I take it seriously. I've already started saving for our future. I will work as hard as it takes to ensure Mitsuri has everything she needs and more. My love for her isn't just words—it's a promise to stand by her side and support her, no matter what."
Rumi let out a quiet sob, pressing her hands to her chest. "He's so sincere, Hiroshi. Don't you see how much he cares for her?"
Hiroshi grumbled under his breath, clearly moved but trying to maintain his stubborn façade. "You talk a good game," he said, his voice gruff. "But actions speak louder than words."
"They do," Obanai agreed, his tone unwavering. "And I'll prove it to you. Not just today, but every day forward."
The room fell silent for a moment as Hiroshi studied the young man before him. Hiroshi's expression turned sharp. His gaze lingered on Obanai, scrutinizing him as if weighing something unspoken.
