Chapter Song: Tomoki Hasegawa - "Kizutsuitemo"

Mitsuri knocked on Kanae's door, practically bouncing on her heels as she waited. When the door opened, Kanae greeted her with a warm smile, her hand resting on her rounded belly.

"Mitsuri! Aaahhh!!! It's so good to see you!!!" Kanae squealed, stepping aside to let her in.

As soon as Mitsuri stepped inside, she squealed with excitement, her eyes immediately locking onto Kanae's growing baby bump. "Kanae! Oh my goodness, look at you! You're glowing!" Mitsuri gushed, her hands clasped together in delight. "You look beautiful."

Kanae laughed softly, brushing a hand over her belly. "Seven months and 2 weeks," she said, a hint of pride in her voice.

Mitsuri couldn't contain herself any longer. "Can I feel her?"

"Of course," Kanae said, taking Mitsuri's hands and placing them gently on her right side of her stomach.

Mitsuri's eyes widened as she felt a small, faint kick beneath her palm. "Oh! She kicked! Kanae, she kicked!" she exclaimed, her face lighting up with pure joy.

Kanae chuckled, her own eyes softening. "She's been quite active lately. Sanemi jokes that she's going to be just as feisty as he is. God I hope not"

Mitsuri giggled as they moved to sit on the couch. Kanae propped her feet up on an ottoman, sighing in relief as she leaned back.

"You look so beautiful, Kanae," Mitsuri said sincerely. "How's everything going? Are you feeling okay?"

Kanae nodded, her smile unwavering but soft, as though it masked something deeper. "I'm feeling pretty good, all things considered. The first trimester was rough—I was sick all the time and mostly in bed—but things have been much better since then. Sanemi's been really attentive, even if he gets a little overprotective sometimes. His mother has been such a help as well—more than my own mother, honestly."

Mitsuri's heart sank at the mention of Kanae's mother. She hesitated, then asked gently, "How come?"

Kanae's smile faltered just slightly, the brightness in her eyes dimming. She took a moment, as if weighing her words carefully. "My parents don't agree with our relationship, and now... it seems like our baby girl has to pay the price for that. But we won't let her ever feel unwanted." Her hand drifted to her belly, her fingers tracing a small, protective circle. "She'll always know she's loved."

Mitsuri watched Kanae's expression, caught between admiration and sorrow. "If you don't mind me asking... how have things been for you and Sanemi these last six months?"

Kanae's gaze softened further, distant now, as though she were recalling each moment. "Well... when I woke up in the hospital bed the next morning, I had a terrible headache, and the only one in the room was Sanemi. His head was hung low, but the relief on his face when he saw me awake..." She paused, her voice catching slightly. "He was happy, but I could tell something was wrong."

She smoothed her dress over her belly as she continued. "He explained everything—what happened, and that I was pregnant. At first, I didn't believe him, but the doctor came in and confirmed it. I was scared about what my parents would say, and I guess I was right to worry. While I was still sleeping, they came to the hospital... and left. Since then, they've kept their distance, checking in only once a month, like it's an obligation."

Kanae let out a small sigh, then smiled again, this time with quiet resolve. "Two months later, Sanemi and I got married at the courthouse. It wasn't grand, but it was perfect for us. Shinobu was my witness, and his mother was his. Sanemi didn't want my parents there—he only wanted people who truly supported us." Her fingers lingered over the small swell of her stomach. "And now... I'm Kanae Shinazugawa."
