Hello, lovely readers!
This will be the last special chapter for this story! Although I would love to write more, I want to focus on other stories that I'm excited to create. I had so many ideas for mini-chapters, but to be honest, it's time to bring this beautiful story to a close and move forward with new projects.
With that being said, this chapter will explore the reality of parenthood and the journey of maintaining bonds with oneself and one's partner. I poured a lot of my own experiences into this chapter, reflecting on the beginning stages of parenthood and how I felt during that time.
I truly hope you all enjoy this final chapter!
_______The soft glow of the television cast a warm light across the living room, dancing over the faces of four small children, eyes wide with wonder as they watched Spirited Away unfold before them. Mitsuri sat nestled on the couch, her swollen belly a testament to the little life inside her that would soon join their family. Her fingers moved in slow circles over her stomach, a gentle smile on her lips as she watched her children lost in the magic of the movie.
It was winter break, and Christmas was just a few days away. Snow blanketed the world outside, a quiet serenity wrapping around their home like a soft embrace. Obanai was at work, managing their restaurant with his usual diligence. But before he left, he entrusted a special duty to their eldest twins, Ichiro and Kimiko.
"Take care of Mama, alright?" Obanai had instructed, his voice firm yet tender as he knelt to look them both in the eye. "Make sure she rests and doesn't move around too much."
"Yes, Papa!" they had chimed in unison, eyes sparkling with the seriousness of their mission.
Now, Ichiro sat in his father's recliner, his small figure mimicking Obanai's perfectly, even down to the little furrow in his brow as he kept a vigilant eye on his mother. Kimiko was curled up beside Mitsuri, her tiny fingers wrapped around her mother's hand as if anchoring her in place. On the floor, Sakura and Hana were glued to the screen, their faces lit with awe as Chihiro ventured deeper into the spirit world.
Mitsuri's chest tightened with love, her eyes softening as she took in the scene. Her heart swelled as she looked at her children, each one a piece of her and Obanai—a beautiful mixture of his strength and her gentleness. It was in these quiet moments that she felt the fullness of her life, the completeness of the family they had built together.
A slight kick from within pulled her from her thoughts, and she laughed softly, her hand instinctively pressing where the tiny foot nudged her. "You're eager to join the party, aren't you, little one?" she whispered, her voice tender.
Her gaze drifted back to the twins, now five years old and already so mature, so responsible. Her heart fluttered as she remembered the day they came into the world—the day two became four. She closed her eyes, letting herself drift back to that time, to the sweet chaos of becoming a mother for the first time.
_____
Five Years Earlier
The house was so quiet. Too quiet.
Mitsuri stood in the nursery, her heart racing as she stared down at the two tiny beings bundled in pastel blankets. Ichiro and Kimiko, her precious twins, were just a few days old. Their faces were so delicate, so peaceful as they slept, completely unaware of the sleepless nights and anxious hours their parents were enduring.
Obanai stood behind her, his hands resting on her shoulders, his presence grounding her. He was exhausted—she could see it in his eyes, the dark circles beneath them a testament to his constant vigilance. Yet, his gaze was gentle, filled with a quiet determination that never wavered.
