Chapter Song: Twenty One Pilots - "The Line" (I really thought the lyrics match perfectly!)
A/N - This chapter might be a bit confusing so I refer Obanai past version as "His Past Self". I hope you guys understand the chapter! (>3<) ENJOY!
______The blank white space stretched infinitely in every direction, cloaked in a soft lilac fog that seemed to shift and ripple as if alive. Obanai walked forwards barefoot in the eerie void, his usual black attire replaced with plain white shirt and pants. The silence was oppressive, broken only by faint, irregular sounds—a distant beeping that rose and fell, muffled voices shouting as if underwater, and the faint hum of machinery. A sharp, sterile scent lingered in the air, though there was no source for it. The void pressed against his senses like a heavy blanket, neither comforting nor threatening, but suffocatingly dense.
"Where... am I?" His voice wavered, barely above a whisper, and yet it echoed endlessly in the emptiness, distorted and stretched. He turned, searching for anything—a landmark, a clue, an escape—but all he found was endless white.
Then, he heard it. A faint, rhythmic blip.
Beep... beep... beep...
The sound was accompanied by a subtle tightening in his stomach, as though something invisible bound him. He blinked, and for the first time, his vision faltered. Flashes of darkness interrupted the void—bright, sterile light glaring down at him, shadowy figures moving frantically over his body, their voices frantic but indecipherable.
And then, he saw the figure.
It stood in the distance, barely a shadow against the lilac haze, its back turned toward him. Despite the obscurity, his breath hitched. Something about it felt... wrong. Not menacing, but painfully, intimately familiar.
The sound of the heart monitor grew louder. The beeps were no longer steady, now skipping beats or racing unnaturally.
Obanai's feet moved before his mind could stop them. Each step forward felt heavier than the last, the air thickening like syrup around him. The figure remained motionless, as though it were part of the void itself, but the closer he got, the more the fog seemed to dissolve.
When he was close enough to make out the details, his heart twisted violently in his chest.
The figure was wearing the same white clothing as him, but their hair was unkempt, unevenly cropped in a way that sent a cold chill through his veins. Their shoulders were hunched, the posture heavy with a grief that mirrored his own. And then, his eyes landed on the faint scar running across the figure's cheek—a mark that no one else in this world would bear.
It was him.
Not the man he was now, but a different version of himself. The Obanai who had carried the weight of countless battles. The one who had stood alongside Mitsuri during their final stand against Muzan. The one who had promised her—promised her they would meet again in another life.
"Hey," Obanai called softly, his voice hoarse. The figure didn't move.
"Hello?" he tried again, louder this time, but the sound fell flat, swallowed by the heavy fog.
The heart monitor's rhythm spiked sharply, a grating, frantic noise that made him wince. Beepbeepbeepbeep—
His legs felt like lead, his throat dry. He took a step closer, and the fog seemed to peel back further, revealing more of the figure. This version of himself turned his head slightly, just enough for Obanai to see the hollow eyes staring back at him.
"Is this...?" Obanai's words caught in his throat. The sounds around him grew louder—panicked shouting, the clatter of metal instruments, the rapid beeping of the monitor.
