As they unpacked in their rooms, the girls settled into their space, chatting and laughing, while Obanai and Sanemi took stock of their own accommodations. The room was traditional, with futons on tatami mats and a beautiful view of the garden outside, but Sanemi was too amused by Obanai's nervousness to fully appreciate it.
"So," Sanemi teased, smirking, "how does it feel to have Mr. Kanroji's blessing, huh? You practically have every going according to plan." Sanemi teased knowing things haven't started right between Obanai and Hiroshi.
Obanai was annoyed, though he was still shaking off the tension. "He testing me if I'll break. Like he's sizing me up and finding all my weaknesses. And I swear, every time he calls me by my last name, I feel like I'm in trouble."
"Iguro," Sanemi mimicked in a deep voice, feigning Hiroshi's intimidating presence. "If you so much as look at my daughter wrong, you'll be in that hot spring, dead."
Obanai grimaced. "Thanks for that visual, Sanemi."
Sanemi snorted and flopped onto his futon, hands behind his head. "Hey, it's good for you. Builds character. Anyway, don't sweat it. Just be yourself around him. If he didn't like you, he'd already kick you out."
Obanai looked skeptical but let it slide, glancing out the window toward the garden. "Yeah, well, I'll just focus on getting through dinner tonight."
The door slid open, and Kanae peeked in with Mitsuri by her side, both of them already glowing with excitement for the evening. Mitsuri came right up to Obanai, giving him a reassuring smile.
"Everything okay?" she asked, a hint of amusement in her voice. "You're not scaring my boyfriend too much, are you, Sanemi?"
Sanemi shrugged, feigning innocence. "Me? Scare him? Trust me, I've been trying for years. Your father has that covered."
Kanae laughed and then turned to Obanai, who still looked slightly on edge. "Don't worry, Obanai. Mitsuri's dad might seem intimidating, but I'm sure he's a big softy at heart. Plus, he's probably just being protective. He is seeing his first daughter with a man he's never met. This is his first real experience."
Obanai's expression softened as he looked at Mitsuri. "I understand. I'll try my best."
Mitsuri blushed, taking his hand and squeezing it. "You already are, Obanai."
Obanai smiled and squeezed back. "Thanks Mitsuri"

Later that dayThe four of them made their way down to dinner, where Mitsuri's mother, Rumi, had set up an extravagant spread. The low table was covered with dishes of all kinds—grilled fish, simmered vegetables, fluffy rice, and hot miso soup, all of it steaming and inviting. The warm aroma filled the room, making their mouths water.
"Wow," Kanae breathed, taking in the sight. "This looks incredible, Mrs. Kanroji."
Rumi chuckled, waving a hand. "Please, call me Rumi! And thank you, dear. I hope you all came hungry."
They settled around the table, everyone eager to dive in. Hiroshi joined them shortly after, giving a nod to everyone before taking his seat at the head of the table. His gaze fell on Obanai again, though this time with a slight smile. Obanai couldn't tell if it was approving or just testing, but he returned it with a respectful nod.
The conversation flowed freely, mostly led by Mitsuri's mother, who regaled them with funny stories about Mitsuri's childhood. Hiroshi stayed mostly quiet, occasionally nodding along or chiming in, but his presence was always felt.
After a while, Rumi turned to Sanemi, eyes sparkling with curiosity. "So, Kanae," she started, "how long have you and Sanemi been together?"
Sanemi nearly choked on his drink, glancing at Kanae. "Uh, well, since our second year of highschool. ," she managed, her face beating red under her gaze.
