Mitsuri's P.O.V.
"It had been two months since Obanai and I got married, and everything felt surreal, like a dream I never wanted to wake up from. Marriage had brought us closer in ways I couldn't even imagine. I feel so lucky, so fulfilled, like a dream come true.
When I told my family about our marriage, most of them were ecstatic. My mom cried tears of joy, and my siblings cheered, but my father...well, he stayed quiet. At first, I thought he was upset. But when he learned that Obanai had taken our family name, I noticed something change in him. Maybe it was pride, or maybe it was relief. He didn't say much, but I think deep down, it made him happy.
During these months, Kanae gave birth to her baby girl, Natsumi Shinazugawa. She weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces, and had so much black hair. She looked like a miniature version of Sanemi—but her soft, kind eyes were entirely Kanae's. When Obanai and I visited them, I saw something I'd never seen before: Obanai holding a baby. His hands were so gentle, his expression soft and full of wonder. It was one of the most beautiful moments I've ever witnessed. I couldn't help but imagine him holding one of our own children someday. My heart swells at the thought.
And Shinobu—oh, Shinobu! She cried happy tears when she held Natsumi for the first time. "I have a niece!" She kept saying. Giyu stood beside her, quiet as usual, but the way he watched her and the baby was so sweet.
Now that Shinobu and Giyu were back from their couples' trip to Kyoto. They visited us at our apartment right after returning. Shinobu rushed in, tears in her eyes, saying how much she missed her best friend. We hugged for so long I thought we'd never let go.
Life felt so full, so rich with love and connection.
______
September
As the months passed, summer faded into autumn, and the cool breeze of September brought with it new beginnings. Obanai's birthday was approaching, and his life had undergone significant changes. At the restaurant where he worked, he had been promoted to side chef, an achievement he was both proud of and modest about. Every time Mitsuri teased him, calling him "Chef Kanroji," his ears would turn red, but she could see the pride in his smile.
During this time, Mitsuri had also found her own job in the city. She worked part-time at a charming flower shop in Shibuya, just a short walk from their apartment. Every day, she would bring home flowers that brightened their living space, filling it with the scents of fresh blossoms.
Despite their busy lives, Mitsuri and Obanai had started looking for a new home—a place where they could truly begin building their future. Mitsuri wanted something close to her family, and Obanai agreed. They decided to move away from the chaos of the city and into a calmer, more suburban area.
After weeks of searching, they found it: a beautiful 5 floors, 5-bedroom, 3-bathroom house with a spacious backyard and a lovely front yard. It was only 13 minutes from her parents' home, close enough to visit often but far enough to have their own space. Mitsuri fell in love with the house the moment she saw it, envisioning their future children playing in the yard while she and Obanai watched from the porch.
"This is it," she said softly, her voice trembling with excitement as they stood in front of the house.
Obanai looked at her, his mismatched eyes filled with warmth. "If it makes you this happy, then it's perfect."
____
Two weeks later
The apartment was eerily quiet, the once-cozy space now stripped bare, with boxes stacked against the walls. Every corner was a reminder of their life here—the late-night conversations, the shared meals, the laughter, and even the tears. Obanai sat on the living room sofa, his legs stretched out and his arms resting on the back of the couch. His mismatched eyes roamed over the room, taking in the emptiness.
