The backyard was a children's paradise, and it reflected Obanai's craftsmanship and love for his family. The playground he built years ago stood as a testament to his dedication, complete with a slide, swings, monkey bars, and a small wooden fort perched at the top. The summer sun highlighted every detail, and the vibrant colors of the playground made it a centerpiece for laughter and joy. Chattering echoed in the warm air as Ichiro, Kimiko, Sakura, Hana, Natsumi, and Ren played together.
Near the patio, Mitsuri and Kanae sat on cushioned chairs, sipping on iced tea and fanning themselves lightly. Both women had radiant glows, their growing baby bumps a testament to the joy soon to come. Kanae was seven months along, while Mitsuri was five months into her pregnancy. Sanemi sat with them, leaning back in his chair with a cold drink in hand, grumbling about the heat but secretly enjoying the family atmosphere.
"Where's Obanai? He should've been back by now," Sanemi asked, glancing toward the driveway.
"He's probably finishing up the lunch rush at the restaurant," Mitsuri replied, her pink hair catching the sunlight as she smiled. "You know how dedicated he is. Plus he has a new employee working for him so he's teaching him how to work around the kitchen."
Kanae giggled softly. "I bet he's triple-checking everything the poor boy did before closing up."
Sanemi shook his head but smirked. "Man's got too much energy. I'm glad my job isn't too bad."
"That's rich coming from you. It took an a lung and kidneys to get you out of work. You barely leave it." Kanae elbowed him with a hint of annoyance. "Anyways, speaking of energy," Kanae said, nodding toward the backyard, "I think the kids are going to exhaust themselves before lunchtime."
Mitsuri chuckled, resting a hand on her belly. "That's the plan. It'll make nap time easier."

In the backyard, the children were mid-discussion in the fort at the top of the playground. Ichiro sat cross-legged inside the fort, his short, round, mushroom-shaped hair with bangs falling slightly into his soft green eyes. He wore a muted blue shirt paired with beige shorts, quietly inspecting a toy robot in his small hands. Beside him stood his twin sister, Kimiko. Her long, straight hime-style hair cascaded down her back, with matching bangs framing her turquoise eyes. She wore a watermelon-inspired summer outfit: sage green shorts with little white seed prints and a white ruffled-sleeve shirt featuring a picture of a watermelon slice. She leaned against the wooden railing, her sharp eyes scanning the scene like a little protector.
In the middle of the fort, Natsumi twirled dramatically, her long black hair swept into a high ponytail with soft bangs framing her face. She wore a fluffy pink tulle tank dress and pointed her chin up like a princess addressing her kingdom. "Okay, everyone! Listen up!" she declared confidently. "We're playing knights and princesses, and I'm the princess! You all have to rescue me from the dragon!"
Down on the grass below, Sakura was helping Hana climb up the ladder to the fort. Sakura's short, wavy bob with bouncy bangs framed her lively face, and her baby-green-and-white striped shirt and pink shorts were already smudged with dirt from earlier adventures. Beside her, Hana hesitated on the ladder, her shoulder-length, softly curved bob swaying as she clung to the rungs. She wore a simple white dress, her shy demeanor making her cautious as she tried to keep up with Sakura's boundless energy.
A little farther away stood Ren, quietly immersed in a book. His comma-shaped hair shifted gently in the breeze as he adjusted his glasses. He wore a sleeveless navy blue shirt and denim shorts, perfectly content to enjoy his own little world amidst the lively commotion. He looked up at Natsumi's declaration, blinking nervously. "Do we have to fight the dragon?" he asked softly.
