[ Jake feels self conscious about his stimming and is trying to suppress it and Johnnie notices ! ]
Cw: masking, suppressing/hiding real self, insecurity, shamefulness
__________________________________________For the past few days, - Jake has been acting a bit..off. As if he was trying to be someone he wasn't.
He was masking in front of Johnnie, suppressing his true self as much as he possibly can.
Johnnie noticed this and was starting to get concerned. He had known Jake for a while now, and this sudden change in behavior was strange to him.
He knew that something was wrong but didn't want to confront Jake about it yet. He decided to keep an eye on him and wait for the right moment to talk.
At the moment, Jake was sitting on the couch. Scrolling on his phone with a monotoned expression.
Johnnie walked over to the couch and sat down next to Jake, still feeling a bit worried about him. He leaned back into the cushions and glanced at Jake's phone screen, noticing the monotone expression on his face.
"Hey," he said softly, trying to get Jake's attention. "You okay?"
Jake didn't hear, he continues to scroll. With that exact same face.
Johnnie frowned, feeling more concerned now. He gently tapped Jake on the shoulder, trying to get his attention again.
"Jake, can you hear me?" he asked, a hint of worry in his voice.Jake lifted his head, "Huh?"
Johnnie sighed in relief, glad that Jake had finally responded. He looked at him with a serious expression."I asked if you were okay," he repeated. "You've been acting weird lately."
"Huh?" Jake just laughed this off, "I'm fine, dude."
Johnnie raised an eyebrow, not entirely convinced by Jake's response. He knew Jake well enough to tell when he was hiding something.
"Really? You've been acting off for a few days now," he said, studying Jake's face. "You can talk to me, you know that, right?"
Jake nodded. "Mhm"
Johnnie could sense that something was still off about Jake, even though he was trying to hide it.
He knew that Jake had autism and was used to his mannerisms and behaviors. But this time, there was something different. He could see the tension in Jake's eyes and the way he fidgeted with his hands.
Jake continued to mask his autism in front of Johnnie, trying his best to act "normal", tried to maintain a steady tone in his voice, and even made an effort to make small talk. But inside, he was struggling. He could feel the weight of his mask, and it was becoming increasingly difficult to maintain it.
Johnnie watched Jake closely, noticing the subtle signs that something was wrong. He could see the tension in Jake's body language, the way he avoided eye contact and fidgeted with his hands. It was clear that Jake was putting on a front, and Johnnie was determined to figure out why.
"Jake," he said softly, placing a hand on his shoulder."You don't have to pretend with me. I can tell something's bothering you."
Jake tried to suppress his stims, knowing that they would give him away. He clenched his fists tightly, trying to keep them from flapping or rocking back and forth. He also tried to control his breathing, taking deep breaths to calm himself down. But it was getting harder and harder to hold everything in.
Johnnie noticed the way Jake's fists were clenched and how he was taking deep breaths. He knew that these were signs of suppressed stims, something that Jake often did when he was trying to hide his autism.
