I sigh heavily stopping writing on the paper the lyrics of the song I was composing, now losing my concentration. Looking at the wall, I hear noises from the apartment next to mine and roll my eyes. Something was hitting it together with sounds of furniture moving.
-Is she cleaning the house again at this hour? – I wonder out loud knowing too well how my neighbor is.
Not so long ago a girl moved to the apartment next to mine. I'm not exactly the type of guy who forces myself to be sociable with everyone around me, but even so, I tried to making a good impression, what didn't last long since nowadays we fight like cat and dog.
It's nothing personal exactly. At first I tried to keep my cool with all the noise she does, but it was getting on my nerves. She would spend hours cleaning the house, moving the furniture while singing her favorites songs in her loud stereo. In my case, I need a quiet place to compose the songs I sing and to practice the guitar, but since she moved here, my days have been different from usual.
I stand up from the couch with a heavy sigh. I will have to go up there and tell her that I need silence again. Weird that tonight it seems that she is making more noise than normally. What is she even doing so late? While I am going up the stairs, I listen to some voices coming from her apartment.
-ANDREW, STOP! ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND? I TOLD YOU ALREADY! GET OUT OF MY HOUSE! – I frown, walking closer, wanting to eavesdrop a little bit, but then the door bursts open.
Suddenly I see a guy leaving her apartment. He was puffing through his nose with his fists shut, as if he was very angry. He passed by me, staring at my eyes like crazy, and I just notice that I stopped walking when he was gone. Something was telling me that I shouldn't leave it aside. I run to her apartment, knocking on the door.
-WHAT DO YOU WANT NOW? WASN'T IT ENOUGH WHAT YOU HAVE DONE? – She opens the door, and gasps, seeing that it's me at the door. – Yuta...? – I widen my eyes seeing the view in front of me. She was crying. A lot. And her face was... swollen. As if someone had hit her.
-What is it on your face? – I ask holding her chin and caressing it, but she slaps my hand away, wiping the tears off her cheeks.
-Nothing. You're here to complain about the noise, right? Don't worry. The reason of the nose has just gone away. Now, leave me in peace. – She says, deviating her eyes of mine and taking a step behind to close the door, but I put my hand on it, stopping her.
-Did that guy do it to you? Did he hit you? – I ask looking at her in the eyes, and she looks up, trying to contain her tears, but failing miserably. Her hands are trembling and her breathing is slurred. I've never seen her like that.
-Why do you care? I'm not in the mood to chatter, so... you can come back to your apartment. Sorry for the noise again. – She says, and closes the door in my face.
I feel my blood boiling inside my veins. That guy... hit her. Even after all these arguments we had, it never crossed my mind to... I can't even think about it. I am shocked. She is normally a so bright person, but now she looks terrified. How would a guy even think on hurting someone like her?
I turn around, running by the stairs like crazy. I didn't even think twice. I only knew I wouldn't sleep at night if I let him go away after what he did to her. I looked around, hoping that he wouldn't be gone yet, and then I feel a sting in my heart. I find him still getting in his car.
-HEY! IDIOT! – I call him, and he frowns, turning to look at me, not even seeing the hand that punched him straight in the nose, making him fall on his back. – You like to h1t women, ugh? Let's see if you like to face someone your own size, you coward. You're gonna regret to have laid a finger on her.
I was out of my mind, and I only noticed that in the next morning when I woke up with the sounds of my doorbell ringing nonstop. I groan, getting up from the bed feeling all my body hurting, hearing someone knocking on the door frenetically.
-Yuta! Open the door! – I hear Y/n's voice and I sigh. Of course that idiot wouldn't shut his mouth about that. I open the door leaning on it with my arm, seeing her eyes widening in shock looking at my face. I hadn't looked at the mirror yet, but I knew how it might be. – Oh, my gosh. Your face... Did you really...? Why did you do that? – She asks, and I deviate my gaze from hers.
-What did you expect me to do? Let the guy go away without doing anything? I just startled him a little bit. Nothing serious. – I say, and she scoffs.
-Startle? He sent me a message saying "I knew you had another guy. He came here and b3at me so much that I thought he wanted to k1ll me, and then he said that if I ever see you again, he would end with my life for real." – She says, and I chuckle. Did I really say that? I don't even remember right.
-He is overreacting. Why? Are you worried about him? – I ask, and she clicks her tongue.
-It's not about him. It's... Look at your face. You got bruises. What could have happened? – She says, trying to touch my cheek, but I stop her, holding her hand.
-His face is worse. – I say, and she looks down in silence.
-I thought you... hated me. – She says, and I stare at the purple in her face, now wanting to have punch3d the guy more.
-We have our arguments now and then, but it's not like I hate you. – I say, looking back at her eyes. – It's quite the opposite actually. – I see her expression changing to a slight surprised one, turning back to her self.
-I see. – She says in a low tone. The way she got shy by what I said was so good to see. – I- Well... Thank you... for having... you know... protected me. Andrew never accepted that I wanted to break up, but I think that he won't bother me anymore.
-If he does, you can tell me. – I say, and she smiles shyly.
-Alright... So... I think I will get going. – She says, and I nod.
She starts to walk away as I close my door, but I hear her calling me again.
-Yuta! – She says, and I frown, opening the door again. – I wanted to... I mean, I think I should... - She stutters seeming nervous.
I stare at her waiting for her to say what she wants, but she simply gets closer, cupping my face and kissing my lips. I get surprised, but I close my eyes, feeling her long peck and her hands holding me close. She pulls away slowly, giving me others quick pecks on my lips.
-That's it. Thank you. Bye. – She says fast, going up the stairs before I could even say something. Thankfully because I lost the words. My head was empty. I guess we're gonna solve the arguments in a better way from now on.
