After what it felt to be the 2 longest classes you had in your life, you finally sit down to eat your lunch. As usual, on the same table is Jeno. Everybody, even those who don't know you, have seen you together many times. You are very close friends, and you can't see your days without him anymore. It's simply routine for you to meet and talk about your day and your problems. You know him like the palm of your hand, but lately something on him is a little suspicious. While you complain about the big homework your teacher gave you today, Jeno eats fast, not taking his eyes off his cellphone, like he was waiting for something.
-Heeey! Why are you checking your phone every 3 seconds? - You ask, and before he could answer, a message arrives to him. He takes it quickly on the table and looks at you.
-Sorry, I have to go. See you later. Good luck with your homework though. - He says and stands up, going to somewhere.
He has been like that for some days now, but every time you tried to bring it up, he beat around the bush, changing the subject. You didn't think too much of it, but as the days went by, the way Jeno was treating you was different. He kept saying he was busy all the time, not having time to do the things you used to do together. He stopped talking about his day that often, and when he does, it's something shallow.
Your mind reasons about what you should do. Maybe Jeno is going through something difficult in his life, or maybe you said something you shouldn't, and he is mad. Should you ask him straightly or just give him some time?
While you were thinking, you cross a hall of your university, and your eyes see a weird scene. Hiding behind the wall again, you see Jeno talking to one of your friends, Katie. You frown your eyebrows, finding that weird. You didn't know they knew each other. Actually, they have met before through you, but you didn't know they are friends too.
Looking at them from afar, they seem very close as they were laughing around and showing each other their phones. Katie takes his phone from his hand, typing something in there and showing to him. Her hand rests in his arm as Jeno smiles, looking at her eyes. Suddenly, you feel a chill down your spine. So that's what was happening. He found someone new.
You never really thought about Jeno walking away from you. You were already so used to have him around, or you trusted that he would never... change you for another person, but the reality finally punched you in the face. For the first time, you tasted the bitter jealousy going down your throat.
That sentiment made you confused. It feels like there was a hole in the middle of your chest. When you least thought, a question was bumping in your head. ''Is he in love with her?'' What would happen if he was? And why do you hate this so much? Why watching him smiling to her like that hurts like this?
For the next days, you didn't ask him anything more. Their meetings were becoming more frequent, as if they were in their own world. Looking from outside, it must be how others used to see you and Jeno when you were his number one.
-I'm gonna grab something to drink. Do you want anything? - Jeno asks, waking you up from your thoughts. It surprised you that he still asked you to have lunch together today.
-No. Thanks. - You say, and he nods, standing up. A ringtone draws your attention, and you notice Jeno forgot his cellphone on the table. Accidentally, you see Katie's name on the screen.
''Are you still with Y/n? When are you gonna get here?'' That's what the message says. You clench your jaw, trying not to cry in the middle of the refectory. Jeno comes back with a coke in his hand, sitting down again. He takes his phone, and you glance at him, wanting to see his reaction. A smile forms in his face, and you feel your heart breaking in pieces.
-I have to go now. I got something to do. See you tomorrow? – Jeno says, and you just nod, not looking at his eyes.
Finishing with the classes that day, you go home. You only realized you had arrived when the door was in front of your eyes. You spent all the way thinking about Jeno, and immediately, your eyes form tears. The way he was slowly becoming cold and far from you was destroying you inside, because he is the most important thing in your life, and you just noticed now.
