As everyone finished their laps, Luis and Edson wasted no time putting their plan into action. Edson went straight to Kevin, clapping him on the back with a grin.
"Órale, Kevin," Edson said, his voice full of encouragement. "Es tu momento. Ya es hora de que dejes de solo mirarla y le digas lo que de verdad sientes. No te eches para atrás, ¿eh?"
Kevin chuckled nervously, rubbing the back of his neck. "Sí, lo sé. Solo que... ya sabes, no quiero arruinar nada."
Edson shook his head and gave him a firm look. "No vas a arruinar nada. Ella quizás ya lo sabe, pero escucha, decirlo de frente tiene su peso. Te va a escuchar, y vas a estar bien. Hazlo, compa."
Kevin nodded, taking a deep breath. "Tienes razón. Gracias, Edson."
With Kevin prepared, Edson shifted gears and made his way toward Isa, who was still catching her breath from the laps. He waved casually, trying not to seem suspicious as he approached.
"Ey, Isa," Edson called out with a grin, pulling her to the side, away from the others. "Ven, ayúdame a buscar algo. Se me olvidó una cosa por aquí y necesito a alguien que me haga compañía."
Isa raised an eyebrow, trying to suppress a laugh. She knew exactly what was going on, thanks to Kevin's earlier heads-up. "¿De verdad, Edson? ¿Ahora te hago falta para buscar cosas?"
Edson nodded eagerly, playing along. "Sí, sí, claro. Además, ¿no te acuerdas lo despistado que soy? Siempre pierdo todo. Vamos."
Isa smirked but decided to play along, letting Edson pull her a few feet away from the others. "Eres un caso, hermano. ¿Qué andas planeando ahora?"
Edson just winked at her. "Nada, nada. Solo cuido que estés entretenida mientras... bueno, ya verás." He patted her back as he saw Luis giving him a thumbs-up from a distance. The rest of the group, led by Luis, was heading toward the locker rooms, seemingly unaware of the missing trio.
As Luis ushered everyone inside, Edson leaned over and kissed Isa's head. "El deber me llama, nos vemos adentro," he said with a wink. "Suerte, compa," Edson added, clapping Kevin on the shoulder as he passed by and jogging toward the locker rooms with the others.
Now, it was just Isa and Kevin, standing alone on the field. Isa couldn't help but laugh as she turned to him, her cheeks slightly flushed, still feeling the effects of their earlier banter.
Kevin, looking at her with that familiar glint in his eye, took a deep breath, his heart pounding as he prepared to speak.
But for now, the field was quiet, and the air between them was thick with anticipation.
Kevin took a deep breath as he stood in front of Isa, the weight of the moment hitting him. Although he had already confessed his feelings to her before, this time felt different—more official. Her brother and some of their teammates knew, and that added a layer of seriousness that made his heart race even faster.
Isa, sensing the change in his demeanor, raised an eyebrow and smirked. "¿Qué pasa? Ya me dijiste esto antes, Kevin. ¿Qué andas planeando ahora?" she teased, though her eyes were soft, almost inviting.
Kevin chuckled, scratching the back of his neck as he tried to steady his nerves. "Ya sé, ya sé, pero esta vez es diferente. Ahora hay testigos," he joked, nodding toward the direction where Edson and the others had disappeared. He locked eyes with her, his usual playfulness shining through, but there was also something deeper behind his gaze.
"Isa," he started, his voice soft but steady. "Sabes que no soy muy bueno con estas cosas, pero la verdad es que... desde hace tiempo ya no puedo dejar de pensar en ti." He took a step closer, his eyes never leaving hers. "Eres hermosa, de esas que no solo lo son por fuera, pero por dentro también."
