Isa woke up early, the soft light of dawn streaming through her window. Today was special—her brother Edson's birthday—and she wanted to make it memorable, starting with his favorite breakfast. She headed to the kitchen, tying her hair up into a messy bun, and got to work.
She cracked eggs into a bowl, whisking them with milk and spices before pouring them into a hot pan. The sizzle of bacon filled the air, mixing with the scent of freshly brewed coffee. Isa prepared everything with care, arranging it all on a plate and setting it in the table.
After setting the breakfast aside, she hurried upstairs to change into her usual practice clothes. Comfortable jeans and a loose shirt were her go-to, and once she was dressed, she grabbed a pill and a cup of cold water—knowing full well that Edson would need them after his drunken night—and made her way to his room.
She knocked softly on the door before pushing it open. There he was, sprawled across the bed, still fast asleep.
"Edson," she called softly, walking over to him. "Edson, despierta. Ya es hora de levantarse, hermanito."
Edson groaned, burying his face deeper into his pillow. Isa chuckled, sitting on the edge of his bed and gently shaking his shoulder.
"Feliz cumpleaños," she whispered with a smile. "Levántate, te traje una pastilla y agua para que te sientas mejor."
He opened his eyes groggily, blinking as he slowly came to. His head was pounding, but when he saw his sister sitting there with the glass of water and the pill, a soft smile touched his lips.
"Gracias," he mumbled, sitting up a little and taking the pill from her hand.
As he sipped the water, Isa spoke softly, her voice filled with warmth. "Te quiero mucho, Edson. Siempre has sido el mejor hermano, y aunque a veces te hagas el duro, sé que me cuidas más de lo que dices. Estoy muy orgullosa de ti. Feliz cumpleaños, hermanito."
She leaned in, wrapping her arms around him in a tight hug, resting her head against his shoulder.
Edson's eyes filled with emotion, her words hitting him in a way he didn't expect. He remembered those high school days when he had been so mean to her—pushing her away, teasing her, shutting her out even though she never gave him a reason to. Isa had always been there, always loving him, no matter how difficult he had been. He regretted every moment he'd ever made her feel like she wasn't important.
Tears welled up in his eyes as he hugged her back, tighter than before.
"Perdón," he whispered, his voice breaking. "Perdón por todo lo que te hice pasar cuando éramos más chicos. No lo veía en ese entonces, pero... nunca te merecí. Siempre has sido la mejor hermana, Isa. Te quiero mucho."
Isa pulled back slightly, her eyes soft as she smiled at him. "No tienes que pedir perdón, Edson. Todo está bien. Siempre te he querido, y siempre lo voy a hacer."
Edson wiped at his eyes, his heart heavy with both guilt and love. "Gracias, Isa. No sé qué haría sin ti."
They stayed like that for a few moments longer, wrapped in each other's arms, before Isa broke the silence with a playful smile.
"Bueno, ahora que ya te desperté, baja a desayunar antes de que se enfríe todo, cumpleañero," she teased, standing up.
Edson chuckled softly, shaking his head as he watched her leave the room. His heart felt full, and for the first time in a while, he felt at peace, knowing that despite everything, Isa had never stopped loving him. He vowed to never take that for granted again.

As Isa and Edson headed out to the car, Edson, still recovering from his hangover, winced at the sunlight. Isa handed him a pair of sunglasses with a grin, and he grumbled but put them on.
