Kevin arrived at practice with a noticeable spring in his step, his usual calm demeanor replaced by an unmistakable glow. As he stepped into the locker room, the energy shift was so apparent that it caught everyone's attention.
"¿Qué traes, Kevin?" Uriel asked, narrowing his eyes in curiosity as he watched Kevin smile to himself.
"Sí, esa sonrisita te delata," Edson added with a knowing grin, crossing his arms as he leaned back against the locker.
Kevin's smile widened as he thought about Isa pecking his lips before they fell asleep last night. He quickly tried to mask his expression, shrugging off the comments. "Nada, solo estoy de buen humor," he replied, trying to sound nonchalant, though the blush creeping up his neck betrayed him. (Nonchalant is such a funny word)
"Buen humor, ¿eh?," Uriel chuckled, sharing a look with Edson. "No nos quieres contar por qué, ¿verdad?"
Kevin shook his head, reaching into his locker to change. He wasn't about to reveal that he'd kissed Isa—not just for his sake, but also because her brother, Edson, was right there. As he laced up his cleats, his phone buzzed on the bench next to him. Picking it up, he saw a message from Isa replying to the one he'd sent earlier. He couldn't help the smile that tugged at his lips as he liked the message and returned to tying his cleats.
"¿Quién es?" Uriel asked, leaning over to peek at Kevin's phone.
"Deja de ser chismoso, Uriel," Kevin replied, pushing him away playfully as he stood up, still grinning.
But his teammates weren't going to let it go that easily. "Estás muy sonriente para ser solo un mensaje," Edson teased, raising an eyebrow. "¿Qué no nos estás contando?"
Kevin rolled his eyes, trying to play it cool, though his blush deepened. "No es nada," he insisted, but the teasing continued.
"Seguro es alguien especial," Uriel said, nudging Kevin's shoulder. "Ya cuéntanos, ¿quién es la afortunada?"
Kevin knew better than to spill the beans, especially with Edson around. He just laughed it off, brushing past his teammates as he headed toward the field. "No sé de qué hablan," he called over his shoulder, leaving his friends to exchange curious looks, all wondering what—or who—had put Kevin in such a good mood.
As Kevin walked onto the field, he couldn't shake the thoughts of Isa from his mind. Her smile, her laugh, the way her lips felt against his—everything about her had him completely captivated. He knew his teammates would keep pestering him about it, but he didn't care. For now, he was content to keep those memories to himself, at least until he figured out where things were heading between him and Isa. All he knew was that he was in too deep to turn back now.
____As Kevin went through his warm-up routine on the field, he caught sight of Edson and Uriel walking towards him, their expressions full of curiosity. "¡Kevin!" Uriel called out, drawing the attention of some of the other players.
"Ya dinos, wey, ¿quién te trae así?" Edson asked, a teasing smile playing on his lips.
Kevin shook his head, refusing to give in to their persistent questioning. "No les diré, dejen de insistir," he replied, continuing to stretch his hamstrings, trying to stay focused.
"Vamos, no vamos a decir nada," Uriel persisted, putting a finger to his lips as if sealing a promise.
Kevin laughed at their persistence. "No, déjenme calentar," he said, attempting to divert their attention back to the warm-up.
But Edson and Uriel were not so easily deterred. Sharing a knowing look, Edson grinned and said, "Bien, le preguntaremos a nuestra queridísima Isa."
Kevin's smile grew wider, and he could feel his cheeks flush at the mere mention of Isa's name. Thankfully, he had his back turned to them, so they didn't catch the redness spreading across his face. "Dudo que les diga," he replied, his voice steady even as his heart raced.
