Isa sat comfortably in the living room, little Karlita nestled in her lap. The little girl had just quieted down after a tantrum, and now she was asking her favorite person of the day, "Titi Isa, ¿me haces una trenza?" Isa smiled warmly, already brushing through Karlita's hair with her fingers.
"Claro que sí, princesa. Vamos a hacerte una trenza bonita," Isa said, gently separating sections of Karlita's hair and beginning the braid.
Karlita giggled, her little fingers busy with the coloring book Isa had brought. "Titi Isa, eres la más bonita de todas," she said matter-of-factly, glancing up at Isa with wide, admiring eyes. "Eres mi tía favorita."
Isa's heart melted, and she chuckled softly. "¿Sí, de verdad? ¡Pero si apenas nos conocimos hoy, traviesa!" she teased, playfully nudging Karlita's shoulder.
"Sí, pero eres la mejor," Karlita insisted, leaning back against Isa as she colored, clearly comfortable and already attached.
Just then, Guillermo, Memo's son, walked in, a big smile spreading across his face as he spotted Isa. "¡Tía Isa!" he called, walking over and sitting down next to her on the couch. "Eres la tía más cool que he conocido."
Isa raised an eyebrow, laughing as she gave Guille a high-five. "¿Ah, sí? ¿Y eso por qué, campeón?"
Guille grinned, glancing over at Karlita, who looked up from her coloring book. "Porque juegas futbol bien chido. Eres mejor que algunos de los jugadores que conozco," he said proudly, making Isa laugh even more. They had had a small match in the backyard earlier, and Isa had clearly left an impression.
"Pues, me alegra que hayas disfrutado el partido, Guille. Lo haces muy bien también, ¿eh? Deberíamos hacer otro pronto."
Guille nodded eagerly, starting to color alongside Karlita. "Sí, tía. Y además," he added, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper, "eres buena con Karlita. Y no todos saben calmarla."
Karlita beamed up at Isa, hugging her arm while she colored. "Titi Isa es la mejor tía del mundo," she chimed in.
Isa's smile softened as she looked down at both kids, who had snuggled in close, coloring away. She felt so much warmth being with them and couldn't help but wrap her arms around them, squeezing them lightly. "Bueno, ustedes son los mejores sobrinos del mundo, así que estamos a mano, ¿verdad?"
Both Guille and Karlita giggled, nodding as they continued to color, leaning into Isa's embrace with small smiles on their faces. They didn't want to leave her side, and Isa felt a special connection with them, despite it being their first day together.
Kevin walked into the house, heading to the kitchen to grab more drinks, when he spotted Isa sitting on the living room floor with Memo's kids. Karlita sat in her lap, showing her the colors she'd chosen for her drawing, while Guille leaned into Isa, proudly showing off his coloring skills. Isa smiled warmly, patiently listening to them and praising their work with gentle words. Both kids looked at her like she was the best person in the world, and the sight made Kevin's chest tighten.
As he watched, he couldn't help but think, Dios, es tan buena con los niños. The way Isa interacted with them was so natural, so warm. He felt a flicker of admiration, but it was quickly replaced by something deeper—a need he couldn't ignore. Es como si todo lo que hace fuera perfecto, he thought, gripping the edge of the counter. Y lo peor de todo es que no ayuda en nada que se vea así hoy.
She was wearing a simple black, off-the-shoulder dress that hugged her figure just right. It was elegant, yet still playful—exactly like her. Her hair fell in soft waves, framing her face as she laughed softly at something Guille said, the sound carrying through the room. Kevin shook his head, letting out a soft sigh. ¿Cómo no me voy a volver loco por ella? Todo lo que se pone, cómo se mueve, cómo sonríe... Me tiene completamente perdido.
