It was past midnight, and Isabella couldn't shake off the feeling of seeing Santiago staring her down during practice. His intense gaze had been unsettling. Why was he always looking at her with that look? Could he be jealous? More of those thoughts lingered in her mind, making it impossible for her to find peace.
As she tossed and turned, her phone suddenly went off, startling her. She looked at the screen and saw Kevin calling. With a sigh, she answered.
"Isa! ¡Mi buena amiga! ¿Qué haces?" Kevin's voice was loud, and she could hear music and people talking in the background.
"Kevin, ¿estás borracho?" she asked, already suspecting the answer.
"No, no... bueno, sí," Kevin admitted, sounding like an innocent kid caught doing something wrong.
"Kevin, pídele a alguien que te lleve a tu casa. Ya es noche. Acuérdate que mañana tienes práctica," Isa said, her voice filled with concern.
"Sí, mamá," Kevin replied, laughing. "Solo quería hablar contigo un rato."
"Está bien, Kevin, pero en serio, ve a casa. No quiero que tengas problemas mañana," Isa insisted gently.
"Lo haré, lo haré. Eres la mejor, Isa," Kevin said, his voice warm with affection.
After a few more minutes of talking, Isa finally managed to convince Kevin to find a ride home. They said their goodbyes, and Isa hung up, feeling a bit more at ease knowing Kevin was safe.
She laid back down, her thoughts returning to Santiago. The image of his gaze, so intense and filled with something she couldn't quite identify, lingered in her mind. What was he thinking? Was there something more to his looks than she realized?
As she pondered these questions, her eyes grew heavy, and she finally drifted off to sleep, Santiago's mysterious gaze still haunting her dreams.
It was now morning, and Isa was feeling a bit funny, so she decided to prank Edson. She tiptoed into his room and shook him awake. "¡Edson! ¡Levántate! Son las 6:54 de la mañana!"
Edson instantly stood up, panic washing over him. Knowing that practice started at 7:30 and traffic was bad, he started changing in a hurry. "¡Apúrate, vas a llegar tarde!" Isa urged, barely able to keep a straight face.
"¿Por qué te ríes, mensa?" Edson asked, his confusion evident.
"Es broma, Ed. Todavía falta una hora," Isa finally admitted, bursting into laughter.
"No mames, Isabella," Edson groaned, throwing a pillow at his sister. "Ya duerme, al rato te despierto," Isa said, turning off the light and closing the door of Edson's room.
With Edson settled back in bed, Isa turned on the TV and started watching "Mickey Mouse." She cooked some breakfast and began eating, enjoying the quiet morning. After a while, she went to Edson's room to wake him up for real this time.
"Edson, ya es hora de levantarte," she said, gently shaking him awake.
Edson groggily got out of bed and got ready. As he came out, he looked at Isa with some curiosity. "¿Tú no vas a ir?" he asked, noticing she was still in her pajamas.
"No, no me siento bien para ir," she replied, feeling a bit off but trying to sound nonchalant.
Edson found it weird but decided not to press the issue since he was already running late. "Está bien, nos vemos luego," he said, grabbing his things and heading out the door.
Isa waved him off, then laid down on the couch, soon drifting off to sleep. Her mind was still swirling with thoughts of Santiago and the previous night's conversation with Kevin, but exhaustion finally overtook her, and she slipped into a deep sleep.
