They walked past the hubbub in the lobby and rode the elevator to the sixteenth floor.
Compared to the hustle and bustle in the general ward, the VIP ward could even be considered desolate. The ground was covered in soft carpet that muffled their footsteps, and the quality of the room could be seen from the dark-colored wooden door that looked luxurious at a glance.
A soft cough sounded nearby and they turned to see a man on a wheelchair facing the balcony.
His shoulders looked so thin and delicate as he pressed a hand to his mouth, trying to suppress the coughing episode. His long hair poured over his shoulders, rendering Jimin unable to see the man's features clearly.
"Mr. Eun!" The nurse clearly recognized him and hastily went to inquire about his condition. "Are you okay? Why are you running out of your room again? You should have just rested properly inside." She gently patted the man's back and grumbled with an anxious tone. "How are you feeling? Do you need me to call a doctor?"
"No... there's no need. Thank you. It's just a little cough..." He raised his head and Jimin could finally see him. It was a very pale and beautiful man with light brown eyes akin to molten honey. His entire body was shrouded in a sickly aura.
Perhaps realizing that someone was staring at him, the man tilted his head and met Jimin's gaze. Jimin did not shy away and gave him a nod of acknowledgement, which the man returned with a faint smile.
"Ah!" The nurse finally remembered that she was supposed to bring Jimin to his Alpha's room. She hastily advised Mr. Eun to call the nurse if he was unwell and returned to Jimin with an apologetic look. After that, she continued to lead Jimin down the hallway.
"Just now it's our long-time patient, Mr. Eun. He has already been here for more than six months. Such a beautiful omega, it's a pity that his health is ruined..." she shook her head sadly.
For some reason, Jimin recalled the scene when their gazes collided earlier. Despite his poor health, those eyes had been brimming with light and vitality. So dazzling that people could not look away. It was the first time Jimin had met a male omega beside himself and he could not resist his curiosity. Before he knew it, the question had slipped out of his mouth, "What happened to him?"
"Oh, I don't really know the details, but I heard it's a car accident," the nurse mused. "Hearsay he has been in a coma until recently."
Jimin gave a noncommittal hum and soon threw this brief encounter to the back of his mind, especially when the nurse stopped at one particular door, saying, "Here we are."
Again, Jimin's heart started to race and his palms turned clammy as if this was the first time he was going to meet Jungkook all over again. Unfortunately, the nurse did not notice his predicament and proceeded to knock on the door.
When an answer sounded inside, she slid the door open and gestured at Jimin with a grin. "Mr. Jeon, look who is here to visit you."
Jungkook was leaning on the bed with a book in his hands. The sunset glow draped over him, making his dark hair seem as if it was frayed with gold. When he heard the nurse's voice, he raised his head and his eyes clashed with Jimin's in an instant.
Jimin watched as the Alpha's eyes lit up with an insuppressibly sense of joy and thrill, and a brilliant smile stretched across his attractive face. "Jimin, you're here!"
Jimin's heart abruptly seized in his chest and his throat felt choked up. It had only been a few hours, but why did it seem like he had not seen this person for half a lifetime?
They said that absence made the heart fonder, and Jimin understood it vividly when his gaze landed on Jungkook right now. Just how could someone be so handsome? That smile was so dazzling, so radiant as if he was staring at the sun itself. Even then, he was still unwilling to look away even for a bit.
