No'ones Pov
Gingerbrave tilted back his head, staring at his reflection as he popped in the fake set of vampire fangs. His cloak swished as he turned around to look at Wizard, dressed as Ron from Harry Potter.
"Where's Strawberry and Custard?" Gingerbrave asked, looking around the room.
Wizard shrugged, picking up his empty black bag for candy, "She said she's not feeling like going tonight. It's pretty chilly. And Custard is...I'm not sure actually."
"Aww, come on!" he complained, sulking, "This is the first time after COVID we're allowed to trick or treat normally!"
An idea popped up into Gingerbrave's mind. He remembered how he originally wanted to go to a haunted house, but in the end, decided not to since Strawberry seemed too scared.
"Wait...that means we can go to the haunted house in the woods!" Gingerbrave declared, stars lighting up his eyes.
"No way," Wizard opposed, his eyes darting to the kitchen where his mother was humming and preparing candy for the trick-or-treaters. "That house has been abandoned for years. Let's just stick with trick-or-treating."
"Oh, come on! Be brave!" Gingerbrave begged, grinning at the thought of a thrilling night under the full moon, "It won't even be that scary! It'll be so cool! Imagine what others will say!"
"Shh! You're going to get us in trouble if anyone finds out!" Wizard hushed him, before standing straight.
The doorbell rang, halting their conversation. Wizard's mother, who had put on a Mickey Mouse headband last moment, walked into the living room with a smile and a bowl of candy.
"Trick-or-treat!" A group of kids clamoured as she opened the door.
Gingerbrave leaned sideways, and whispered, "Are you sureee?"
"Yes I'm sure," Wizard mumbled, "It's-"
"Are you boys ready to go?" Wizard's mother questioned, pivoting around after the kids left.
They nodded, slipping on their shoes. They stepped into the fresh night, the crisp air filled their lungs and prickling their skin. Wizard's mother crossed her arms, giving them a stern look. "Now remember. Stay away from shady-looking people, don't eat suspicious-looking candy, and be back by ten."
"Yes Mom," Wizard answered simultaneously as Gingerbrave exclaimed, "You don't have to worry one bit ma'am!"
Her expression dissolved into a smile as she nodded in approval. They turned and began walking away from Wizard's home, and his mother called out to them, adding, "One more thing! Stay away from the abandoned house! I heard from Caramel Choux that there have been ominous noises coming from it lately!"
Gingerbrave gave her a thumbs-up before darting away with Wizard, his cape blowing behind him.
A few blocks down after about a hundred or so houses with their bags filled with candy, Gingerbrave pauses. They were on 23rd ave, where the forest leading directly to the abandoned house stands. Even though it was blocked by a few trees, the slanted roof and tinted round window of the attack peeked over the branches.
