The next morning, Sunoo woke to the faint sound of Nabi’s uneven breathing. His eyes opened slowly, and he immediately turned his attention to her. She was still nestled against him, but her face was pale, and the faint flush from last night had been replaced by an unsettling ashen hue.
"Nabi," he murmured, gently brushing her hair away from her face. "How are you feeling?"
She opened her eyes weakly, her voice barely above a whisper. "The same," she admitted, her breathing shallow. "But I’ll be okay. I just need rest."
Sunoo frowned, his concern deepening. "You’re not okay," he said firmly, sitting up and cupping her face with his hands. "Your breathing sounds worse, and you look like you’re in pain. I’m taking you to the hospital."
Her eyes widened slightly, and she shook her head. "No," she said quickly, her voice trembling. "It’s not that bad, Sunoo. I don’t want to go. I hate hospitals."
"Nabi," he said softly but sternly, his thumbs brushing against her cheeks. "You promised me last night that you’d take this seriously. And right now, this isn’t something we can ignore."
She bit her lip, her eyes glistening with tears. "I just… I don’t want to spend the day there," she whispered. "I’ll feel better if I rest here."
Sunoo exhaled sharply, trying to keep his frustration in check. "You’re not getting better, Nabi," he said gently but firmly. "And I can’t just sit here and watch you suffer. Please, let me take care of you."
When she didn’t respond, he stood up, grabbing a soft hoodie and sweatpants from his dresser. "Fine," he said, his tone leaving no room for argument. "If you won’t agree, then I’ll make sure you’re at least comfortable first."
Before she could protest, he returned to the bed, helping her sit up slowly. "Here," he said, holding up the clothes. "Let’s get you changed so you don’t have to sit in wet clothes anymore."
Her cheeks flushed faintly, but she was too weak to argue. Sunoo worked gently and carefully, helping her out of her damp dress and into his oversized hoodie and sweatpants. The soft fabric engulfed her, and she couldn’t help but feel a small sense of comfort despite the situation.
Once she was dressed, Sunoo crouched in front of her, taking her hands in his. "Nabi," he said softly, his voice filled with both worry and determination. "I know you’re scared, but I can’t let this go. I’m taking you to the hospital, and I’ll be with you the whole time. I promise."
She looked into his eyes, seeing the unwavering resolve there. Tears welled up in her eyes as she nodded slowly, finally relenting. "Okay," she whispered. "But… don’t leave me alone."
"I won’t," Sunoo promised, his voice gentle as he pressed a kiss to her forehead. "Not for a second."
He carefully helped her to her feet, wrapping an arm around her waist to support her as they made their way out of the house. His car was waiting in the driveway, and he opened the passenger door, helping her settle into the seat before buckling her in.
