As they walked back to the group, Sunoo kept his grip on Nabi’s hand firm, almost as if he was afraid to let go. His mind raced with her words—You’re more than enough. They should have reassured him, but the lingering tension in his chest wouldn’t dissipate. He hated how insecure it made him feel, how much control the image of Nabi and Jungwon on the Ferris wheel still had over him.
When they arrived at the bench, Jungwon’s eyes flicked up briefly from where he stood leaning against the railing. His gaze lingered on their joined hands for a fraction of a second before he quickly looked away, his jaw tightening almost imperceptibly. Sunoo noticed it, though. He noticed everything.
"Welcome back," Taehyun said, sitting cross-legged on the bench. "You guys missed me showing Jungwon how to win at that ring toss game over there." He gestured vaguely toward a nearby booth.
Jungwon let out a soft laugh, but his tone was subdued. "You didn’t win," he said, his voice quiet.
"I would have!" Taehyun shot back, laughing. "Don’t ruin my moment."
Nabi chuckled, sitting back down on the bench, while Sunoo remained standing, his eyes subtly tracking Jungwon. He’s too quiet, Sunoo thought. Jungwon’s usual ease was missing, replaced with something guarded, something… off. And it only fueled the questions running wild in Sunoo’s head.
"Let’s do one more ride before the day’s over," Sunoo announced, his voice cheerful as he clapped his hands together. "Something fun for all of us."
"Like what?" Taehyun asked, raising an eyebrow.
Sunoo turned to Nabi, his smile softening. "How about the carousel? You’ve always liked the more peaceful rides, right?"
Nabi blinked, a little surprised by the suggestion. "Sure," she said, smiling faintly. "That sounds nice."
Jungwon didn’t say anything, but Sunoo caught the way his posture stiffened slightly at the mention of the carousel. It was subtle, but it was enough to make Sunoo’s stomach churn with a mix of satisfaction and unease. He knows I’m trying to keep her close.
As the group made their way to the carousel, Sunoo stayed close to Nabi’s side, making light conversation to keep the mood relaxed. But when they arrived, Jungwon surprised him.
"I’ll sit this one out," Jungwon said, his tone casual. "I’ll watch from over there."
Sunoo froze for a moment, caught off guard by the sudden withdrawal. Nabi looked at Jungwon, her brow furrowing slightly. "You’re not coming?" she asked, her tone softer than Sunoo liked.
Jungwon offered a small smile, but it didn’t quite reach his eyes. "Nah, I’m good," he said, shoving his hands into his pockets. "You guys enjoy it."
