Sunoo leaned back on the couch, his arm draped casually around Nabi’s shoulders, a warm smile on his face as he looked at her. "So," he began, his voice light but excited, "I’ve been thinking about throwing a party. Just something casual, you know? A way to kick off spring."
Nabi stiffened slightly, her gaze dropping to her lap. "A party?" she repeated softly, her voice uncertain.
"Yeah," Sunoo said, squeezing her shoulder gently. "Nothing too wild. Just a chance to hang out with friends, relax, have some fun. And, of course, I want you to be there." His tone softened as he added, "You’d come, right?"
Nabi bit her lip, her fingers nervously fidgeting with the edge of the blanket still draped over her legs. "I don’t know, Sunoo," she said hesitantly. "I mean, parties aren’t really my thing. And… you know how people from school are."
Sunoo’s smile faltered slightly as he watched her expression darken. He knew exactly what she meant. The scars of her past, both emotional and physical, hadn’t fully healed, and the thought of facing those same people again—especially in a social setting—clearly weighed heavily on her.
"Hey," he said softly, turning to face her fully. "I get it, doll. I know how hard it’s been for you. But things are different now. You’re not alone anymore."
She glanced up at him, her eyes filled with a mix of doubt and vulnerability. "It’s not that simple, Sunoo," she murmured. "People don’t just forget. And… neither do I."
Sunoo’s chest tightened at her words. He reached out, gently lifting the hem of her shirt just enough to reveal the faint burn marks on her side—marks that told a story of cruelty and pain she had endured. His heart ached as he traced his fingers lightly over the scars, his touch careful and reverent.
"You’re stronger than you think," he said softly, leaning down to place a gentle kiss on one of the marks. "And no matter what, I’m going to be there for you. I won’t let anyone hurt you again."
Nabi’s breath hitched at his words, her cheeks flushing as she felt the warmth of his lips against her skin. She looked at him, her eyes shining with emotion. "Sunoo, you don’t have to—"
"I do," he interrupted gently, his gaze locking with hers. "You’re my girlfriend. You mean everything to me. And if you’re worried about the party, I’ll make sure you’re safe. I’ll stay by your side the whole time if that’s what you want. I’ll make it clear to everyone that you’re with me."
Her lips trembled slightly, her heart swelling at the sincerity in his voice. "You really mean that?" she whispered.
"Of course I do," he said firmly, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "I’d do anything to make you feel safe, doll. Anything."
