Sunday came pretty fast. Emma had had a few days to adapt to everything new, get used to the school and to have friends. She only had one in her life before and the girl betrayed her, so having people to hang out with, or talk and laugh, it was a new thing, but certainly not displeasing.

Emma was looking at her reflection in the miror. She was wearing jeans and a sweater, but she knew she had to change for the barbecue at the Jone's home. She sighted before getting to her closet and taking a skirt and a nice shirt. Couldn't she keep the sweater? She felt so inconfortable in this kind of fancy clothes.

The blonde changed and looked at herself again. She did not really like it, but Rose asked her to, so she wore it anyway. Talking about her foster mom, she knocked on the door of her room.

"Emma, are you ready?" Rose asked.

"Yeah!"

Emma opened the door and Rose told her how she looked great. She simply answered the comment by a grin and they got downstairs.

Her and her foster parents walked over to their neighbour's. Everyone was in the backyard. There was music, people talking and laughing, the ambiance was great, but still Emma felt inconfortable around all of these unknown persons, especially since Rose and Oliver were introducing her to friends of theirs.

At some point, she spotted Killian with his brother, so she excused herself and walked to them.

"Hey!" said Killian as he saw her approaching.

"Hi." she responded and sat on a chair next to them.

"Having fun?" he asked. Emma quickly looked at Liam but saw that he was on his phone and probably not paying attention.

"Well, getting introduced to strangers that are your foster parent's friends isn't that fun, but... you?" she said.

"Not really. These barbecues are kind of lame. I mean, adults like it but except us, all the other kids are younger." he said, pointing a group of children playing and running around the garden. "But, the food is awesome." he added.

"I bet it is." Emma smiled.

"You need to try my mother's choolate chips cookies, or the apple pie. They're so good!" he said.

"I'm not much of an apple fan, but I'll try." she answered. "What do you normally do during these barbecues?"

"Hang out and when I get bored I sometimes go around for a walk or something. Or I get to my room, draw. I used to spend time with my brothet but now he's either on his phone or with his girlfriend. Right, Liam?" Killian said and glanced at his brother that compleatly ignored him. "Yeah." Emma chuckled.

"Hey, you still haven't showed me those drawings, though." the blonde said.

"True. I should show you." he said as he got up.

"Now?" Emma asked.

"Why not?"

She followed him into the house. It was the first time she got inside. It looked pretty much like hers, with its differences. They got upstairs, to Killian's bedroom. It felt weird for her to be in the room that she usually saw from her window.

The walls were grey, with a few movie posters hung on the wall, just like some drawings. CD's were piled in one corner and his bed on the right side of the room, as his desk was next to the window. Emma walked to the wall where some of the drawings were. They were all really beautiful. She noticed the drawing of the girl that passed away on the wall as well.

"Wow..." she said, still looking at the wall. "They're so beautiful."

"Thanks." he responded as he got next to her. "This is mostly things that friends asked me to draw. Like, this one, it's Elsa. Or this, that's the tree in our backyard. Not much, but still." he added.

Emma recognized a few of his friends, that she didn't really know. The only thing she knew about Killian's friends is that they complained that he spent too much time with her. She heard it sometimes, but did not say a word about it.

The blonde kept on looking at the drawings and pointed one.

"Captain Hook?" she giggled and he blushed a little.

"Yeah. I like Peter Pan, and he's kind of my favorite character in the movie." explained the teenager.

"But he's the villain!" Emma said back.

"Doesn't mean he can't be my favorite." Killian shrugged.

Emma then pointed the drawing of the girl she'd seen before. Her curiosity was taking over and thought maybe he could tell her who she was.

"I've never seen her around." Emma declared.

"She hum... passed away, a little more than a year ago." Killain said and looked at the floor.

"Oh, sorry..." Emma responded. She then thought it might not be a good idea to ask about her.

"It's alright. Her name is Milah. I used to... you know, be with her, but- yeah..."

Emma did not know what to answer, which created an akward silence between the two. The blonde started to play with the bracelet at her wrist and her friend decided to make a move.

"How about we go eat and then go for a walk? I could show you around, more than the way to get to school." he suggested.

"Sure!" she answered.

They got back to the barbecue. Before Emma grabbed something to eat, she told Killian that she was just going to get a sweater at her house, because she was cold. She walked the few meters that seperated the two houses and stopped when she saw the dark-haired girl sitting on the stairs of her new good home.
