The morning light easily shone through the blinds hanging on the windows, allowing spots of sunlight to hit certain parts of the room in a straight line, one dot, just directly in her face.
Arching a brow, Stevie opened her eyes and she kind of opened her mouth, just feeling how dry it was. She then kind of looked around and when she did, she noticed the I.V. in the back of her hand, the oximeter device clamping her index finger, but then she noticed the bassinet at her left.
She kind of smiled to herself as flashes of things appeared in her mind, things all the way from when she was talking to Shannon the day before to the various things she remembered as a blur as the night furthered on.
Taking the oximeter off, she made sure it wasn't tangled with her I.V. before shifting her weight gently. It was then she could feel soreness to her body, but she sat up anyway and pulled the baby out of the bed.
"My little girl," she sighed, pressing a kiss to her face. "You're so beautiful..." she mentioned, examining her tiny features for the first time. "Look at you..."
Just then, the door opened and Lindsey came in with a very familiar overnight bag and a couple of coffees.
"Hey, you," he beamed as he rushed to be at her side. "You're up..."
"Yeah," she sighed, smiling lightly. "What time is it?" she wondered.
"Almost seven," he claimed.
"Wow..." she mumbled, then looking over, she smiled. "Did you just get here?"
"No. Well yes. I've been here with you guys. Dr. Arthur woke me a bit ago and I figured I would go home and shower. I finally got this out of the trunk..." he smirked at the bag they had packed weeks before.
She nodded, directing her attention to the baby once more with a smile.
"She's gorgeous, Stevie..."
"She is," she agreed. "We did good, huh?" she winked.
"Other than a few chromosomes from me, she's all you, honey... I'm in awe between how sick you were and everything, yet you still handled it," he shook his head.
"I vaguely remember," she sighed. "My body felt so hot, I seriously thought I was gonna die from that fever. The heat would not lessen, every time I opened my eyes, it felt like I was laying in scalding hot water or something and being in bed, unable to move much, I felt restricted. My eyes were burning, my head was pounding so painfully, in fact, it still hurts but more like a lingering headache and nothing I can't handle..." she sighed.
"I'm so happy you're awake," he added, pressing a kiss to her head, feeling a normal temperature on her.
"Me too, I feel like I missed everything," she grinned, still taking in her newborn.
"You missed quite a bit, but you were there for all of it," he smirked. "From delivery to feeding, you got me..."
"It was like that with Shannon, she put me through hell..."
"Somehow, I find that not hard to believe," he simply joked.
"Right?" she rolled her eyes. "She was born exactly a month early from her due date and I was in labor with her for a week. And prior to being in labor, I had false alarms for weeks. When I finally had her, it was such a relief but I was so tired and I was able to hold her and meet her first thing, but then I remember I slept really hard that night and nobody could wake me. I was basically breastfeeding in my sleep since Robert was there to authorize it was what I wanted and all that," she explained. "For instance, if he wouldn't have been there for any reason and I was by myself, they would have started her on a formula."
