Shannon rolled out of bed, her head spinning as she sat up and looked down at her attire; the black bikini she had put on at some point the day before between her mother leaving and coming back.
"Mm," she pursed her lips, looking over to see Damon passed out to her right.
She then flicked the blanket off and she made her way out of the room, in order to get to the bathroom to take a rinse off and after, she just threw the black dress she had on from the day before since it was casual, form fitting and no effort for her hungover self.
She left Damon where he was after dressing and she started traveling down the stairs, in desperate need of coffee.
She no longer lived there but it was still home and it was her house to come and go from; her parents made that clear so as she traveled, she never checked her surroundings or checked the time---she didn't care to either.
As she approached the bottom of the stairs, she brought her hand up to rubbed her face---feeling the affects of her drinking from the day before.
"Hey, there, sunshine..." the singer couldn't help but smirk as she rested her hand on her hip as she watched her move slowly.
"Morning," she grumbled and opened the fridge in search of orange juice. Shutting the door, she turned---clearly making eye contact with her mother.
Stevie arched her brow.
Shannon then creased her brow in return, "Since when can you see?" she asked after finally figuring out what was different about her.
"Since yesterday," she replied easily enough.
"How?" she asked, a near shrug coming from her as she moved passed her.
"Kristen had the baby..." she cleared her throat, turning to flip the pancake on her skillet. "It made me very happy..."
"That's it?" she wondered.
It wasn't that she wasn't happy for her---she was just unsure of how it happened overnight like it never happened, like she'd never been blind those last two weeks.
"Evidently," she nodded---her tone beginning to mirror that of her daughter's.
The oldest tale was that they didn't get along and they never had and ultimately things got worse when Shannon found out her mother was cheating on her father, however---in the last few months things had begun to change and they got closer with a bit of understanding and communication especially as far as that affair was concerned. Unfortunately, the death of Jeffrey simply brought them even closer as the unit mourned their family member. But it was clearly his peace-making presence that was missing---the inevitable was that they tolerate one another.
"So, Kristen had the baby yesterday evening," she continued, repeating the more exciting news. She was not even willing to further into an argument and she was sure the words didn't penetrate her mind the first time she said them.
The girl's ears perked that second time around.
"It was a little boy," she smiled softly as the thought of his precious little face returned to her.
It was clear to the younger gal that her mother was in la-la land over the child having been born---she knew it would make her feel better.
"I wish I would've been there..." she mumbled.
"We wanted it to be very different, but after talking to Kristen I could just hear how uncomfortable she was and everybody was here," she assured.
Shannon lifted her brow.
"Speaking of talking to her yesterday... I know you were listening at the door, so what did you hear?" she wondered, not even willing to sugarcoat anything while her daughter was in such a mood.
